He would probably agree with me that he needs to work on staying in front of guys, but it is no mistake that he averaged nearly 3 steals a game when given starter mintues." added Bulls assistant coach in charge of defense and reserve SF Louis Sterling.

Nicknamed the "Helsinki Hellraiser" coming out of the draft for his aggressive style, Viitala averaged 21.7 ppg and 2.7 steals last season for the lottery-bound Bulls. Most consider Viitala's future with the organization up in the air given the presence of Lester Toole and Viitala's uncertain contract status. Both players seemed to handle the line-up shuffle well. "Chuck (Conway) and I are still the only guys on the team who can hit a 3", joked Toole after practice. "I'm sure I'll see the court. Whatever the team needs".
