Biggest Steals of the 2nd Round
Over the years we have seen alot of players taken in the 2nd round who have had great KVBL careers. Here are some of the players that have stood out from each draft class:
2016 Draft: Shannon Duffy PG, 29th overall: He's developed into one of the best backup pg's in the league, and can also be a solid starter for specific teams. He wont score the ball alot, but he will pass the ball at an above average rate and also play good defense. He's a solid player and should have a long career in the KVBL Orville Grimes SG, 44th Overall: He's a guy that can get you 15-18 ppg on solid percentages without hurting you much elsewhere. He is a very solid starter for any team that needs scoring and actually was a starter for the nets last year. Interesting note...He was actually drafted by the Nets originally. 2017 Draft: No one 2018 Draft: Winston Harris C, 32nd overall: He's actually a really nice player, who is currently signed as the 4th big for the Suns. He unfortunately suffers from CFS (Constant Foul Syndrome) but when he's not fouling he does alot of great things on the court. He shows flashes of being an all star bigman when he's on the floor but because of his CFS he's relegated to a really really good backup big. Nikola Nemanja C, 37th overall: Another guy that suffers from CFS. Like Harris, he's another guy that plays great when he's not fouling. He is a starting calibre above average starter. The fact that there are 2 starter calibre bigs taken in the 2nd makes me wonder what the hell were the previous owners thinking? 2019 Draft: Daniel Lapham PG, 28th Overall: Has managed to carve out a nice career as a solid backup pg. Barely ever shoots but plays solid D and passes the ball well. He suffers from the Aaron Morey syndrome, which is basically the PG equivelant of CFS. 2020 Draft: Shawn Huggins SG, 33rd overall: He's an interesting player. He gets to the line alot, converts at a good % and also is a very good 3 point shooter. His biggest value is his passing though, one of the better passing wings in the league with a 48 assist rating. Definately better then alot of guys taken ahead of him. 2021 Draft: Shane Kersey SG, 30th overall: Really has no weaknesses other then his 3 point shooting. He's a good rebounder and passer for his position and wont really hurt u in any area. He is an absolute steal for where he was taken, and he should be a very solid starter a few years down the line. Even now he's a very useful bench player and even a starter in the right situation BJ Graham SG, 44th overall: A SG trapped in a PG's body, his only problem might be that he can really only be a good backup for 1 position. However, I think he can be a solid starter for a number of teams. He plays good defense and is a good shooter, I'm just shocked he lasted all the way to the 44th pick. 2022 Draft: Kendall Langston, Kenny Fugere, Bruce Hart, Lyle Prower... These 4 players look like they will have the longest careers out of anyone taken in the 2nd round, with Langston already starting for the Heat. Bruce Hart will have a long long career as a solid backup big and Kenny Fugere is the 1st player coach in the history of the KVBL. Over the years, there have been some gems that could be found in the 2nd round, it's just a matter of good scouting or just being lucky. Some of these guys weren't very useful when they were drafted but progressed alot through the years, but all of them are going to have long careers in the KVBL and it's something you can't even say about alot of 1st rounders taken. Next time u have a 2nd round pick, don't treat it like garbage but actually take the time to scout the players..you might find a diamond in the rough like these players taken...

Re: Biggest Steals of the 2nd Round
at times I have had late 1sts or early 2nds so I have scouted a handful of these guys and have always been impressed by their late value.
Suppose not drafting earlier since I always trade my picks set me up to land some value later. Really wanted Huggins that year and I think I missed by not ranking him within a BPA model big board of guys slipping not thinking he'd be there.

Re: Biggest Steals of the 2nd Round
Euro addition had the desired effect. Still waiting for the first Gilbert Arenas to come out the 2nd round though. Not sure how much "potential" you can add to a draftee to make them develop though.

^ Yeah. I'm still waiting for a Darko like bust in a draft.
It's difficult with the information that's required to e passed out to have these things happen though.

Thomoson at 6th last draft was pretty close ![]() good read! Kendall Langston will never be a super star , but he can be an elite 6th guy or a decent starter =]

Daniel Ortega from 2021(although this because he regressed from injury) is not that great, Nikolai Koznyshev is pretty much garbage...Umm, and if we're looking for players that we thought would be stars but are actually just role players, there's a bunch of those..

Re: Biggest Steals of the 2nd Round
I took Ernie Nielsen 23rd, probably the closest thing I've had to a late round steal. My 2nd round picks are always in the 50's.

Re: Biggest Steals of the 2nd Round
Got super lucky with Huggins in the 2nd round. I didn't even know who I was going to take; I thought I had a lot of time before my next pick before KJ AIM'ed me.
