2026 KVBL Lottery Mock Draft
1. Québec Sharks - Harold Kiba
The Sharks were quite possibly the ugliest team to watch in the KVBL this past season, with a slow, plodding game that scoffed at the idea of offense and instead turned the D all the way up to eleven. This grind it out style was good enough to net the team 27 wins, but that was only good enough to be tied for fourth worst in the league. The lottery balls were kind, vaulting this team to the first pick in a year when some of the best talents in years are leaving the college ranks. Some big contracts are already in place for this team, something that makes it all the more important that they don't mess up this opportunity to change their franchise's path. Kevin Stewart remains a very good point guard and should continue to be the starter (with Jordan Blake in tow to back him up), but it remains to be seen if the team is committed to Trevor Gordon long term at the two. Much of this team's defensive excellence could be attributed to Gordon (along with LeMychal Thomas inside), so it's hard to believe the team will be moving on from him unless they want to toss that aside. The choices here are plentiful, with DJ Alexander, Avery Sandow, and Harold Kiba being the most consistently named among the best players by scouts. Also up for consideration? Mac Moore and Victor Lord Jr. Alexander and Sandow bring flexibility and could fit nicely next to the existing backcourt, but Lord Jr. and Moore would bring much needed inside scoring and rebounding prowess. We firmly believe that all five will be top notch players in the KVBL, but Harold Kiba is going to be our pick. His defensive playmaking and rebounding, coupled with solid scoring ability, should be a huge boon to the Sharks' future. At just 19 years old, the Sharks could be looking at a long term cornerstone the likes of which they haven't had since entering the league. 2. New Orleans Hornets - Victor Lord Jr. New Orleans challenged one of the KVBL records you don't want to have this year, but managed to escape going down in infamy by pulling out five wins (two ahead of the KVBL mark for futility). The cupboard for this team was actually cleaned out last season, which makes this pick instrumental for getting them back on the path to greatness. Point guard Carlos Rivera and a (presumably) re-signed Victor Osborne should be the only remaining players of note from this year's roster entering the 2026-2027 season. The big men out West are a tough bunch, something that should push the Hornets to making Victor Lord Jr. their next franchise player. Rebounding, scoring, shotblocking, anything you could want from your center. If the comparisons to Maynard are worth their weight, the Hornets will be sitting pretty in not too long. 3. Vancouver Lions - DeLeeroy Jenkins Vancouver suffered a setback this year after making the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history. A mediocre team more than a bad one, fate saw fit to drop the Lions into the top three in a draft where that could be a very big deal. The way we see it, the Lions will either be looking for their franchise point guard or a big that can make Chip Fookes' life that much easier. Our heads told us to go with Mac Moore, but our hearts said DeLeeroy Jenkins. Jenkins' ability to orchestrate an offense while not turning the ball over is incredible, and he'd absolutely make life easier for Fookes to do his thing. Mac Moore was that close. We worry about his potential to be a turnover machine, but the Lions could very well decide it's worth it. Still, we're going Jenkins. 4. San Antonio Spurs - Avery Sandow San Antonio continues to profit from their trade of Chaz Penninton to the Nets, now finding themselves in the enviable position of adding a top five talent to a 44 win playoff team. Young studs Mikel Opoku and Omar Andrews have gotten better each year, while guys like Rich Knight and Abimbola Akenzua have found roles that help to maximize their abilities. Veteran Logan Heastie continues to be a team leader and should remain a key piece for at least another year or two. The best players still on the board are versatile guys, DJ Alexander and Avery Sandow. Alexander brings a beautiful three point shot and quicker hands, but Sandow might be the better fit next to Opoku given the latter's propensity for turnovers. Sandow gets the edge, but only just. 5. Phoenix Suns - Edwin Strauss The Suns seem to have finally decided to rebuild (although who can ever be sure with them), and so this pick is highly unlikely to be traded. It's been so long that we've actually gotten pretty sloppy when it comes to knowing the Suns' tendencies, but we'll give it our best. The two most talented players remaining are DJ Alexander and Mac Moore, but our Suns sense tells us to throw those two out. The two guys we think the Suns will be deciding between here are big man Edwin Strauss and the joker himself, Quandre Clowney. Clowney's abilities at the point are comparable to those of DeLeeroy Jenkins, and that's pretty darn good. Then again, the behemoth from St. Louis owns the paint and would allow the Suns to build from the inside out. It makes sense, which makes us hesitant to go with it, but we're saying Strauss'll be the guy. Suns fans will love him. 6. Denver Nuggets - DJ Alexander DJ Alexander's drop skids to a halt at number six, with the Nuggets grabbing him and hoping he can be the answer to their troubles on the wings. The beastly duo of Reggie Wright and rookie of the year Sergei Pechenikov in the paint should set the tone for the rest of the team, but they're really not going to get anywhere if they don't ditch the Luis Ortiz experiment. Drafting Alexander would give the Nuggets a young talent to take away minutes from Ortiz, plus provide them with the three point bomber they very much lack. The Nuggets aren't going to get better overnight, but the Wright/Pechenikov/Mackey trio should be enough to push this team above its level from this season. If Ortiz is still starting and getting big minutes, well, you can go ahead and get ready to see the Nugget back here again next season. 7. Detroit Pistons - Mac Moore The Pistons have had some bad luck in the lottery lately, but their abundance of picks should have started to pay dividends by now. Instead, the team has too many guys pushing for not enough minutes, leaving everyone unsettled and not producing at an optimal level. Consolidation is a must for this team, but they can worry about that after making this pick. We touted him as a possible first overall pick, so you know we believe that Mac Moore is a steal here. Moore's tenacious scoring, rebounding, and defense will allow him to wreak havoc at either forward position for a team that desperately needs some of that. Nick Walker was a revelation for Detroit this past year and a fan favorite, and Moore will fit right in next to him. 8. Cleveland Cavaliers - Quandre Clowney The Cavaliers are an incomplete team that enters the offseason with a billion questions and nary an answer to be found. There are no wings signed for next year, something that will likely have to be dealt with in FA unless the Cavs think Shayne Ekanem is a guy to build around. We don't think they do, so instead it'll be the man who should be feeding whatever wings they do manage to get - Quandre Clowney. Clowney's passing and defense will help to stabilize a team that could use some of that. 9. Philadelphia 76ers - Ken Akers Philadelphia's season was remarkably frustrating for its fan base (and ownership, we'd assume), and all they get for their trouble is the ninth pick. It could be worse, though. We think the Sixers will feel pretty good about coming away with a guy like Ken Akers here, somebody who can block shots with the best of 'em. Kevin Salters might not be the answer at power forward, but Ken Akers will be a nice fit next to him as Philly's front office tries to plan their next move. 10. Minnesota Timberwolves - Shayne Ekanem Minnesota made some strides after acquiring Clarence Harvey at the trade deadline, but fell short of making the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. We hate just going with the BPA when we do these things, but it seems like the right way to go in Minny's case. They're going to need to make some trades to set up their roster just right anyhow, so they might as well grab the best asset they can. Shayne Ekanem hears his name called at ten, bringing his potent scoring punch to the cold and snow of Minnesota. 11. Houston Rockets - Abel Zade We're not entirely sure what we said last year about the Rockets, but it might be the same this year. This team has Jude Parker and a slew of guys. It's just not enough to compete for championships with the KVBL's elite. The disdain that Houston's front office shows for turnovers and inefficiency leads us to believe that this year's three point king is going to be the guy. Abel Zade isn't going to be a star, but that can be said for anybody available here. Rockets would be wise to grab a guy who can help them down the line when they hope to be back among the elite. 12. Orlando Magic - Mickey Nathaniel Orlando came close to making the playoffs after a five year absence this past season, but ended up landing on six despite a payroll near the top of the league. Still, there is reason for optimism in Magicland. The core is young and should come back better next year. If the Magic can make a smart signing or two, they'll be right there battling for a low seed with the East's other not quite bottom feeders. Our sources tell us the Magic aren't sold on Adam Little being the answer next to Jim Stauffer, so we'll say that they grab Mickey Nathaniel here to see if he can do a better job. He'll sell jerseys, that much's for sure. 13. Oklahoma City Thunder - Brooks Melvin The Thunder had a disappointing run a year after being a top championship contender, and much of their troubles were linked to the inadequacies of their string of point guards. Given the urgency with which the Thunder are presumably approaching Maynard's last few seasons of title viability, we'd say they're going to want to address that. Brooks Melvin is not an all around talent by any stretch of the imagination, but he does what a one time great Thunder point guard in Devin Bishop did - make plays on offense, get easy points by forcing turnovers on defense. The bonus that comes with Melvin is his ability to not turn the ball over, something that really does do a bit to offset his more or less being invisible on offense. He's not perfect, but the Thunder will be happy with him here. Last edited by King Joseus; 10-30-2012 at 06:53 AM. |

Re: 2026 KVBL Lottery Mock Draft
I like this mock, aside from the fact that there's like a 0% chance that VLJ doesn't go first. When someone is (quite reasonably) compared to the most successful star player in KVBL 3.0, that's got to be the pick.

Re: 2026 KVBL Lottery Mock Draft
There's no question that Caramel is the better player, but Maynard has easily been the best player on all three of his title teams (regardless of who the finals MVP is, Bart Higgins was the finals MVP over Byers to give you a frame of reference on how valuable that is). He dragged an otherwise meh team to a title as the 8th seed, and I can't remember a single time that he's been limited in any capacity during a playoff series. He's the Dwight Howard of V3 essentially.
If Caramel gets another title, I'd give the nod to him without problem, but I can't deny Maynard his spot while it's still his. Obviously this is pretty opinion based, and no one is dumb enough to say anything other than that Caramel is the most imposing, dominant player in the league... but this is a different sort of debate.

I'm glad my "Bart Higgins is the worst player to ever win Finals MVP" argument finally has some use to it.

To say Love is the better player, the more imposing player, seeing the list of accomplishments that is at least triple in length...it really just boils down to that one extra ring Maynard has on Caramel? If it's the way you see it that's fine, I realize I'm not going to alter your point of view, but I absolutely disagree with that line of thinking.

Re: 2026 KVBL Lottery Mock Draft
he did say "most successful" and "star player." if you base success on championships, then technically its true.
i still think caramel is the #1 KVBL player ever, but I don't see the next caramel in this draft anyways.

Re: 2026 KVBL Lottery Mock Draft
And my entire post was arguing the validity of basing perceived success purely on championships, you're basically choosing to ignore overwhelming evidence...it's far too simplistic to suffice for me.
