It really would be difficult to choose a top GM, I'd have to go with AllRim myself (because voting for you is like to cause sedition, see: GOBJ), but there is a solid case to be made for several people. I don't buy all the Roturn talk, because he went from a mid level team to a slightly better mid-level team, but AllRim went from a meh team to a title contender in a conference where, despite all the "west is garbage" talk, the top few teams can compete with the top few teams in the east no question, and that includes the Grizz. He made some all-in moves and leveraged all of his assets into guys that you can count on for winning games, like Anibel and his big man brigade. All of this wouldn't be possible if Duke didn't take his game to the next level, but surprisingly shrewd moves have made this team a likely contender for at least a while.

Aside from that, while there wasn't a gigantic gap in the standings (I only won about 10 more games) I managed to make a few shrewd signings and a couple big trades, and it turned out very well for me. Turned Sandow into an MVP candidate and turned Tim Matlin into T2: Back With A Vengeance. The team has transformed into arguably the best offensive team in the league (with a +14.22 point differential), arguably the best rebounding team in the league (with a +9.18 rebound differential), and a sturdy defense that forces considerably more turnovers than I actually give up. As plenty of you know, it's hard to move from being a high end playoff team into being a true contender, and that's what I did.

The Nuggets, similarly, went from being a meh playoff team with a solid core to being a legitimate title threat, they finished off the season with vigor after getting Cheikh, who along with Jude and Chip Fookes is part of the "Allan Osyrus Memorial Play-Above-Their-Ratings All Stars". The team has transformed into a juggernaut that kept winning games even after their best player, the vastly improved Sergei, went out for a good chunk of the end of the season.

Turning east there's Omer who, while being the butt of many jokes, has turned his team into a powerhouse (partially at my expense, he leveraged TT, who I traded him, into James Russell, and we all know how Mickey Nathaniel is doing). The trade to get Russell shows that he knew exactly what his team was missing, some backup for ZT, and he did it without ruining his team or killing the things that made his team good, namely keeping his turnovers low and his percentages high. There are a couple weaknesses on the team still, most glaringly rebounding, but you can argue that Omer did the same thing the Suns did which is take a playoff team and turn it into an elite team.

I agree zei both you and omer did a very good job , along with KB 3 of you made a good team - elite , so all 3 of you dezerves to be up there along with allrim who made a bad team - good , rest of the GM's up there can be dissucsed but those 4 come to mind when talking about GM of the year =]

You're taking a narrow minded approach into this, and that's your certainly your prerogative, but it's not the only way to view what happened this season.

GM's are not 100% record driven, that's a coaches perspective. As a GM/owner your primary goal is to better your franchise. Most of the time that's a corollary with increasing your wins total, but it's definitely not the only way to measure improvement.

I remember Porn making some mocking remark along the lines of me building around Ulysses Black as my franchise player at the end of last season. He wasn't exactly wrong either, Black was the best player on my team. To go from having Ulysses Black as the cornerstone of your franchise to the foundation of Harold Kiba (22), Kobe Danielson (24), and Harrison Mahoney (22) in the matter of one season is a pretty drastic turnaround.

It didn't exactly manifest itself in terms of wins, but there's no doubt the franchise is in a significantly better spot now than it was at the start of the season. To me, that's the entire premise of this award, which franchises took the biggest leap forward.

I mean, be honest here. Roturn and the Cavs had a nice surprising little season, and it was mostly due to a solid move to get Mickelbaum. His team snuck into the playoffs, and that's something commendable in it's own right. Did he do a better job as a front office executive by making that one solid move and just barely making the playoffs than I did landing 3 new foundations to my franchise? I mean if you honestly think that, there isn't a point in having a discussion on it because we're not going to see eye to eye. There are multiple aspects to consider when voting, or in this case simply nominating, for this award.

PS - I didn't include you because I said I wouldn't at the beginning of the season due to the whole Rafa fiasco, so I would be compromising my own principles to include you, otherwise you would have been up there.

Dude you did a good job, no one is saying you didn't...

But who in their right minds would vote or you over zei or Omer? It just doesn't make sense to throw your name out there like that because there are GMs who have performed much better than you. When I was making these things I had 4 (maybe 5) GMs, and they were the absolute best, so even getting a mention was cool. You don't belong in the zei/omerstar/aero tier this season, sorry.

Yeah, I chided Zei for moving Sandow. Sandow might be sexier but it seems Jude is more of a winner. Omer getting Russell was huge also.

First of AllRim is GM of the Year because of the moves he made(acquiring Animal, Franco), but also because of the moves he didn't make(trading Duke) even if the only reason is still on that squad is because of RFA not allowing him to trade him. Honestly if we do give it to AllRim we have to at least give 25% of the award to Omer and another 25% to Smath. They've been equally as important as AllRim in the Grizzlies success.

GO/BJ, there's no doubt that as far as the actual players on your roster go, you've turned around your team nicely. But how are we forgetting the fact that you traded your first this year AND next year to do so. You gave up two lotto picks(you won't make the playoffs next year), finished 33-49 and we're supposed to consider you for GM of the Year. Sorry, no. You're not even in the discussion my friend.
