The idea is that if you make a decent offer here in RFA, you have a chance to lock your player down long term for cheap, or you get to match whatever someone else offers. If you don't make an offer, you could end up with them taking the QO which makes them an unrestricted free agent next year, significantly upping the value of the contract he's likely to get *and* giving you no assurances that he'll be choosing your team.
