That makes two of us. It would certainly be the start of a better season; it can't get any worse. I was almost in tears today.

Is Gentry really the problem or just the fall guy? Since the Clippers have went thru many coaches without much success will a coaching change help without additional changes in the management of the organization? Is there a coach available that will make a difference? If so who do you think can help?

He's really a combination of the two. Whenever a team isnt living up to expectations the coach is always going to be held responsible. When i say Gentry is a bad coach I am not just saying that beacause we are losing it's because he's really bad. I will give you some reasons.
1 He plays Kandi to much and runs the offense through him, which is obviously not the way to go. The offense should be run through Lamar and if the ball is going to be thrown in the post Elton should be the one getting it.
2 We have a horrible offense scheme. I wouldnt even call it an offense. To often the ball is thrown into the post and we stand around. We dont make cuts, there is no plays set to get easy shots of picks, the coach shares some balme in that as well as the players. He just makes horrible moves period! His substitution patters are questionable, doesnt play Wang enough, if were struggling he doesnt try something new often enough. I can only think of a handful of times we he has implemented something effectively. We are never prepared for games and thats evident, Players dont know were to rotate, work around zones etc......I could keep going

It wouldnt hurt to see Dj promoted to coach, but I really want Vangundy as our coach. It wouldnt get hurt to get rid of Sterling, wish we could cut him or something.

Good post... agreed even DJ would be a big step up.

DJ and VanGundy are two people I had forgotten about. DJ has no head coaching experience right? If the players respect him he would probbaly still be a good choice. VanGundy got some of his Knicks teams to over achieve. He would probably be a good choice also.

Thanks Jmac: That was a good article, but I could have done without the realization that DTS won't let Gentry go until the end of the season.

I don't believe it is as much the contracts issue as it is the guys have lost complete confidence and respect for Gentry because of exactly what you posted above, mainly his continued use of Kandi. (I forgot, I can't mention his name without getting myself all bent out of shape.)

Thanks again for the article.

PS: As you know, I am pulling very hard for Van Gundy, but someone posted that DTS would never meet VG's salary demand. Personally, I think VanGundy would want the job IF DTS signs Elton and LO and retain a few others AND I think they could workout a deal (I can dream ... can't I?)

Another question I just thought of. VanGundy is an East Coast guy. Even if he was offered an exceptable amount of money would he leave the East Coast and come to the West Coast. Some people are very picky about where they work and live. He could just play the waiting game and take a East Coast NBA or college job.

I dont think it matters where you coach at at. I doubt Jeff is that picky. You brought up some good points, I dont think he would sign with us if we didnt resign some players, and I dont know if DTS would meet his salary demands. I wish we could get rid of DTS too.

I agree, if Elton and LO (and hopefully maggette) are resigned I think Jeff would be licking his chops with the talent here and the fact were in LA. He could make this team and city forget about the purple and gold.

Clippers' management embarrasses me ...

Our recent Clipper teams made me forget WHY I could never completely support the Clippers and I fell in love with the team. I even support DTS' decision wholeheartedly NOT to sign Kandi. But, in the LA Times today I read:

"Clippers aren't ready to change coach yet"

That makes me sick. The article states that Baylor met with the entire team after the last loss to have more of a pep talk then anything else. (Something troubles me about Baylor, but I can't put my finger on it.)

What captured my attention most was the statement: "First, Baylor met with Gentry to watch videotape. Later, they showed the players some of the things they have been doing wrong. Baylor said it was more of a pep talk than anything." If this translates into Baylor NEEDS to show and tell Gentry what to do and to point out what he's obviously missing when/if he views film, DOESN'T THIS MEAN HE MUST GO!!!! THAT HE CAN'T COACH!!

So, here I am again ... p@$$@% at the entire management and resigned to fact that we will return to the OLD Clippers, without a doubt. Void of leadership, etc.

How unfortunate for Clipper fans and the NBA.

I hope they went over this Kandi centered offense. Elgin and Alvin
are like one in the same. I think they molded this team in the image ie: they wanted andre in as our point guard, kepping Lamar. Elgin probably feels letting go of Gentry would be admitting faliure. I hope the talk provides some sort of spark because I am tired of the losses. Im suprised to hear Gentry looked at film at all, I cant tell.

Side note you remember the game against the grizzlies when we were down you know who provided the inspirational talk that lead us to make a comeback? DJ did

We showed SIGNS of playing the way WE ALL (the fans) know this team can play. Too bad, Gentry and Clipper management can't see it. Than again, you're probably right about Baylor and Gentry being one and the same.

Here's a funny observarion from my mom--- she's 70 yrs old and just started watching bball religiously 2 years ago (she's a Laker fan, but is not blinded by her support for them. She acknowledges everything about Shaq and the calls, etc. that non-Laker fans complain about).

Anyway --- she called me to ask if Kandi and Gentry were on the "pipe" together because she couldn't understand why Gentry continues to use Kandi, to do the same thing over and over again without any change even when Kandi is causing the loss and affecting the tempo. And that even SHE could see it. So she said, "just look at their eys and their lips; can't you just see them wrappped around a pipe?"

I've started looking and her speculation does give me pause.

You gotta love someone her age getting into bball, huh? And, what does she know about the pipe? I asked and she said, "I listen to the news."
