Jay Williams is back?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2113584

As the threat of losing Jaric looms, the former 2002 #2 draft pick has rehabbed and should be back on a team come opening day...

I know it's a total risk, but jay williams had a great year as a rookie and showed a very good basketball IQ. He had a good shooting touch, can be a dual-guard and was a fierce competitor, even without his explosiveness & speed, he can still be a commodity to most teams.

Of course, he's completely uninsurable, but i doubt the bidding for him could even reach the MLE. He was only outplayed by Amare & Yao and if he's able to play even remotely close to the level he was capable of, Williams could end up being a ridiculous steal.

Should the clippers offer him maybe 1-2 million with a team option after year 2? i think so. It's a risk we could afford to take, hell.... he can't be any worse than lionel chalmers.

Re: Jay Williams is back?

It would be a HUGE risk. I don't know were he is with his game.

he actually had a pretty poor rookie season and couldnt really find his touch from the field and only 32% from the 3 although he showed some glimpses.

however he has stated he would prefer to go to the Bulls again although i dont see it happening

Re: Jay Williams is back?

i'm not saying he would be the main back-up to SG or PG, more like an emergency player, but the guy does have a lot of talent and athletes these days are making full comebacks from devastating injuries.

Just felt like throwing it out there since the pickings for guards at this point are very slim. But yeah, a team option after year 2 would be absolutely necessary.

Re: Jay Williams is back?

I say that since he has declared his return, and only a select few have shown interest... That he isn't as far as long as many teams in need of a PG want. I personally would rather have Brunson run another backup year than this kid.. You know after that accident that he is going to a wreck... I mean that was one bad accident.....

Not worth it in my opinion..

Re: Jay Williams is back?

I say sign him to a minimum contract to see that he's even close to the talent he had two years ago.
