Optimistic to the Core (Brand is excited)

"I've always been a guy who has been optimistic, especially coming into the season, but this is different," he said. "Without a doubt, this should be a good team. I definitely think we can change the thought process of the fans, all the people of this town and everywhere.

"Elton is really excited about the makeup of this team," General Manager Elgin Baylor said. "He feels it's going to be the best year since he's been associated with the team because we've brought in guys with experience.

"Sam Cassell has two rings and Cuttino Mobley has been to the playoffs," he said. "We didn't have that before these guys came. We have been so young; you couldn't really hold anyone accountable because there was a lot we didn't know.

"You know it's never going to be easy, but I'm very excited about this year," Brand said, "and I'm happy with where the team is going."

To take the leadership role off his back, he should be very excited.

I like Elton Brand. I think he is going to explode even more this season. Now that theres some vetern talent on this team, I think he will get a little bit of pressure taken off his back.

Re: Optimistic to the Core (Brand is excited)

It's impossible to not like Elton Brand I think. He seems like one of the NBA's genuinely good human beings, and one of the few professional athletes who really understands that he is blessed to have the job he has, and that ultimately it is the fans who give him what he has. There are a few players with more gaudy numbers, or so called "superstars," but frankly I don't think there's anyone I'd rather have playing PF for my team than EB.

As for the article, it's nice to know that every once in a while the LA Times will give the Clippers some of the recognition they deserve (another local paper today dedicated a full third of a page to whether or not the Yugofloppian aka Divac will return to the lakers or not). It's also nice to see that EB is once again ready to go kick some a$$, and that Mobley has taken it upon himself to be a leader of the team.

Go Clippers!

Elton Brand ...

I am by no means a stats person, but even *I* had to be impressed with Elton's stats:

Brand has averaged 19.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and two blocked shots in six seasons, and he delivered a familiar performance in 2004-05: 20 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.09 blocks.

To be that consistent on a perennial losing team, without questions takes a special professional and human being to get up for it game in and game out. How many of the 'other' stars have that monkey on their backs and still deliver?

Elton is exceptional and the league is wrong to ignore him.
