Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_14398.shtml

Quote:
There are five NBA coaches coming into the season that have to win now… here are the guys on the Hot Seat going into training camp…
Quote:
Mike Dunleavy: This is Mike’s year – playoffs or bust. The Clippers have spent a ton of money to give Dunleavy the tools he said he needed. The Clippers want the playoffs badly and believe that they have a window to make a splash in LA while the Lakers retool – no one can steal the luster of the Lakers, but the Clippers want to try and be world-class and if Dunleavy can not get it done, the Clips say they will get there by “any means necessary”

Agree? Disagree?

Seems a little foolish to mark Dunleavy as being on the "hot seat" when it is evident that he has done a good while on the Clippers.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

Depends what happens if they didnt make the playoffs. Like say if there are a ton of injuries that really isnt Dunlavy's fault but if he cant get them in the playoffs without injuries with this team then I can see them firing him becuase then they will need to blame someone.

If they just miss the playoffs: they may think about it

If they there not even close to a spot: he's on the hot seat

In the playoffs: he's safe for 3 more years.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

I hate to admit it, but the way the NBA works nowadays, if they don't make the playoffs this year they might really blame him for it, and fire him, which would be too bad because in my opinion he's one of the few (two) Clippers coaches to be worth a damn.

Mike D needs to have a winning record and I guess that would get them in the playoffs too.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

Disagree...

Elgin Baylor is a mediocre GM and he's been paid by Sterling for over 20 years.

Dunleavy has been a blessing to the Clips and he still has to finish the job that he started.

Dunleavy will get to the playoffs this season.

Though I cant argue with the fact that Elgin is medicre, lets face it he hasn't exactly been given all the tools to work with.. Namely MONEY until recently. You want good players, you pay for good players. This is the first time in years, that we actually spent real money on a players. It was a nice change. No matter how good of a GM you are, your either going to be able to spend the money and sign someone or your have to settle for average players. Thats why these last year years have been exciting. With Brand and Corey coming abored, and now mobley and Cassell. I'd say now that Sterling is spending, Elgin is becoming a better GM.

Mike D. Is the the man. He is a good coach and is similar to Larry Brown in the sense he is hardcore on the fundementals. He isn't going anywhere no matter what the Clippers do this season.

That is kind of how I feel right now. I have just seen too many positives from Dunleavy to just throw him away with a losing season this year. Remember he was the one that got Sterling to dish out the major $$$$ for the Clippers new practice facility. He has done some good work so far.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

Ya know: it's nice to see that some of the fans appreciate the job that Dunleavy has done with the club. If you ever listen to a post-game show out here in LA you hear a lot of people just complaining about "why did Mike do this? and why did Mike do that?"

As for the idea that Elgin Baylor has never been fired in spite of all his years of mediocre/bad management, we should also consider that during his tenure A LOT of coaches have also come and gone. I for one just hope we make it to the playoffs this year so this will be a moot point.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

No reason to place Dunleavy on the hot seat. If he is fired after doing a solid job what coach would want to be next?

Very true ... even the Clips horrible draft history is hard to hang on him 100%. Sterling had his fingers in a lot of those drafts. Supposedly took Woods cuz he played golf with his agent, DTS' wife wanted Kimble.

Got to feel a little sorry for Elgin, lowest paid GM in the League who's middle name is Gay, sports the worst toupee in the world, thing looks like it's going to jump off his head and start humping yuor leg any minute, and his entire career has been played out in Jerry West's shadow. Clips have a great season I'll be happy for both EBs.

I think some of that buzz a few months back about Elgin "retiring" may've been fueled by Sterling's unhappiness over the Kittles disaster. Kerry was messed up when they traded for him.

If this team under performs I think Baylor would probably be held responsible and pushed out ... Dunleavy will probably be back for the last season on his contract ... whether he's resigned would depend on W/Ls.

Re: Dunleavy on the "hot seat"?

Lets keep in mind that the longest tenure by any CLippers head coach is 4 years and that was Bill Fitch. Donald has spend more money this year with the FA's and the new facility so his expectations are going to be higher. He is expecting the playoffs and Dunleavy better have a winning season.
