“One area he brings us is a voice, he has been around and understands a lot,” said Dunleavy. “He’s a very smart player and is a very good shooter. He can make guys better because he can shoot and make plays. He’s a threat. If you give him a look he can hit the three-pointer. He has the ability to get to the rim, take a defender one-on-one and make plays. You put the ball in his hands and often his guy will need help which will open up opportunities for others.”

“Elton and I met for dinner early this summer and he had already been working out. He asked what he could do to make the team better and one thing we talked about was from a leadership standpoint and being more vocal,” said Dunleavy. “He said that’s why he was determined to work so hard during the summer because he said, ‘I can’t be the guy until I’m the guy who isn’t making mistakes.’ He brought up three or four games where he felt he made mistakes that I had forgotten about a long time ago. He said he’s trying to get to the point where he doesn’t make mistakes and therefore has the right to be more vocal. I think it’s a great attitude and statement by him.”

What do you feel are the keys to victory for this Clippers squad?
"We have to play inside-out. Its as simple as that. Play defense and play inside out. If we go through the big men, life will be a lot easier."

With Sam running the point, and you and Corey on the wings---how lethal is the Clippers' open court game going to be this season?
"I don't know, but its going to be fun. Sam's so experienced, its crazy. Sam is experienced at getting people the ball and making people look good. He's been with Latrell Sprewell, Ray Allen and all those type of guys. I'm just excited to be around him. He's one of my best friends. We both live in Houston and he's kind of raised me in the NBA."
