Game 1 Afterthoughts

1. It sure looked like the first play of the game was offensive interference.

2. Clippers needed to stick with what was working when they made runs. Getting cassell the ball, kaman going inside, brand being unstoppable.

3. Maggette had big shots, but had 2, maybe 3 complete boneheaded plays/turnovers that were at the worst times, and momentum stoppers. If he could put together a complete game where he doesnt do those things plus still shoots decent, he would be incredible.

4. Cassell trying to find his shot early at the expense of passing, really hurt us.

5. ditto with mobley.

6. I think mobley should have been taken out during his bad stretches, and then put in at the end of the game sinces hes a clutch guy, not the other way around as it was...he was left in when he was bricking everything, and on the bench when the suns made their final run.

7. Cassell should never ever ever be asked to guard barbosa. Ross should immediately switch to barbosa no matter who else is in the game.

8. Clipper interior help defense was pathetic, even elton brand was caught sleeping more than 2-3 times. Barbosa, diaw, marion, nash all had multiple drives to the basket where they got past their guy, and kaman/brand/etc. didnt go to contest the shot.

9. Look for Thomas to have a big game 2. He sat out so much of this game with foul trouble.

10. if kaman is hurting us on defense, and the clippers do not pound the ball into him on offense where he can score at will if he wanted to, then just put him on the bench and bring radman in, because theres no point with him out there otherwise. If radman hurts our flow freaking bring in singleton who matches up well with a lot of the suns players (can you imagine singleton on the suns team? hed probably be averaging 15 and 10. lol).

I love Livingston, but his TO's in the final minutes killed our chances to come back and win.

Those of you talking "take Kaman out" are barking up the wrong tree. Winning a series is about forcing your way of playing onto your opponent. To try and go small and fast is playing it their way...end result still lose. It up to the Clippers to get Kaman involved. It's so doable just needs to get done. Sam must orchestrate better.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

good point JCrush13

I agree that we have to keep Kaman in there and pound the ball inside with EB and Kaman. Now the other 3 guys need to get open when the double team comes against Kaman and get some open shots.

Dunleavy needs to adjust the defence and make sure that all the shots that Phoenix is taking are being contested.

One thing that I liked is how fast is Livingston growing in the playoffs.
I do not know if you noticed his confidence in the court, calling plays, slowing up the tempo, and in all controling the team by himself. I think that he was doing a great job slowing the team down and getting into their game. Yes he had some dumb mistakes but in all his confidence is growing fast in these playoffs.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

Disappointing game because it almost seemed like the Clippers had it in the bag for a while in the third quarter. After the Maggette travel on the fast break, it was all over. A five point swing (due to the lost 2 that he definitely would have made and the 3 the Suns made right after) brought the Suns right back in it and caused the Clippers to lose some confidence.

If Mobley can play better and Kaman can do a bit better, the Clippers can take game 2. Maggette played awesome except for the 2 travels and Livingston did pretty good. Cassell and Brand were awesome. I would like to see more out of Radmanovic as well.

I would also like to add that I totally agree that if Singleton has a purpose on the Clippers, this series is definitely it. He would most likely be incredibly effective and I don't like that we will probably not see him at all the entire time.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

Kaman just needs to be able to finish when he is in the paint. He missed a lot of easy shots. Kaman needs to hit the offensive boards and gets some easy opportunities. CLips are fine. The series doesnt start until a home team loses a game. Lets Go Clips!!

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

we unfortunately gave up an ungodly amount of 3 pointers...i think 1 more than the suns average?...if we want to win this series, the defense will have to challenge every 3 and keep the score below 100...other than that, i was pretty satisfied with their performance after a week's rest...eb, corey, shaun, and sam were great...i agree, jumpin james would be an interesting insertion into the rotation.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

I agree that Singleton needs to be playing because he is such a weapon. He can guard all the players that the Suns play in the frontcourt and he is a great rebounder both on the defensive and offensive ends. Offensive boards are one thing that the Clippers should have dominated the Suns with, getting easy buckets because the Suns guard the three and are so small. Also the game was hard to analyze for me because I don't think the Clips can play any better on the offensive end because the Clippers shot 60% and scored 123 points and drew alot of fouls on the Suns. Also the Clippers blocked 6 shots and out rebounded the Suns.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

^The main factor was 3 pointers and freethrows. I don't think the Suns missed one free throw, while the Clippers missed at least 5. If there was no three point line the Clippers would have won by a few points. That is why it is so important to either guard the three, make a good share of threes, or plain make extra defensive shots. Getting 2 points to every 3 the Suns make every possession certainly isn't going to win games.

Re: Game 1 Afterthoughts

If it takes the suns to play as perfect a game as they did to beat us, so be it. Remember, they beat the lakers in game one, and lakers went back and won 3 in a row. The suns played 10X as good as they ever did in the first 6 games of the lakers series and still only beat us by 7 points on their home floor. Theres no reason we cant rebound from this and take the next 3 games, if dunleavvy makes the necessary changes.

Of course, if the suns continue to play like they did in game one (out of their minds), doesnt matter what we do,w e will get swept.

Wow and I thought it was obvious he just didn't show up period. He had more turnovers than FG's made. All of his turnovers were classic Kaveman boneheaded turnovers. Chris has these games where he just doesnt seem mentally focused.
He should've been benched, the suns couldn't even handle BRand alone and when Radman was out there we made moves by spreading the court.
I would start Kaman in game 2, but he should get a quick hook if he starts playing the same way....again if you didn't read above more turnovers than FG's in what 30 min. Didn't even get double digit rebounds and many times he had position and still couldn't come down with the board.
