Going into game 8..practice
Okay..
5-0 at home
0-2 on the road.
wins will exceed losses this season.
1 game won't tell the whole story for the season. I just hope the Clips aren't matched up against the Jazz in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Please note...
Kaman hasn't practiced or played for 5 months and even then he only practiced a little in Russia and didn't play when the preseason hit the local scene. Livvy is having a "sophomoric" season. Remember.. even though this is his 3rd season.. it really is like his 2nd. Give him till the 25th game to judge him or i'll have to switch my 14 to 13hipclip.
I will give Dunleavy a break. It's a long season. Lots of tinkering around during the season. Lots of matching up to see how players react and play in certain situations. We'll see if there are any bonehead moves that reflect the Phoenix Suns 2nd round series last season that may indicate any trends or glitches in Duns coaching style or philosophies. Maybe Mike Jr. and Mike Sr. are heading into a collision course in the NBA. Has a father ever coached a son in the NBA?
Philly in 3 days.
Lets see how the team reacts to this loss and how they bounce back.

Re: Going into game 8..practice
i wonder how the clippers would do if we had any one of these coaches instead of dunleavy:
avery johnson
phil jackson
jerry sloan
greg popovich
pat riley
mike d'antoni
thoughts?
oh yeah, i agree, one game isn't going to convince me that livy sucks...i have seen too many postitive aspects of his game to label him a dissappointment...

One game isn't going to convince anyone, but so far he really hasn't done anything to prove he's going to be a top tier level PG. He'll be a quality starter, but I'm beginning to think he's probably not as going to be as great as someone like Sam Cassell over the course of his career.
He'll be a different kind of point guard for sure, but he hasn't shown the ability to control the game at all. This could be more of Dunleavy's fault though for not really having a plan.

Re: Going into game 8..practice
Livingston seems to lack a fire to him that makes him too passive. It might be a lack of confidence (due to bad coaching, injuries, etc.), or simply a lack of the want to be a dominating player. To draw a slight comparison, remember Kobe as a rookie (or his second year?) air balling the two shots against Utah in the playoffs?
Dunleavy's a pretty good talent-developing coach, as long as the player in question falls into one he considers worthy of giving the attention. Dunleavy teaches some pretty good fundamentals, especially on the defensive end.
Give Kaman a break, it's still early in the season. None of the Clippers look like they're ready to play yet.

Regular readers of Clipperblog know that it has rarely uttered an unkind word about Shaun Livingston. Like most close observers of the Clips, we've alluded to our wanting Shaun to improve his outside shooting, but overall, we've preached patience.
Having said that, at some point in the near future, Shaun needs to meet expectations. Sure, PGs tend to take a little longer to develop into full-fledged NBA stars; Clipperblog will concede that. Again, Clipperblog isn't definitively putting forth the claim that Shaun is a borderline -- nothing of the kind. But it is asking the question, "at what point is it fair to expect Shaun to produce like a solid NBA player?" This much we know: Shaun was given an opportunity in training camp to win the starting job, and even got the nod for the opener at PHX. Yes, he spent much of his 100 games in the league hurt, but whether it's baseball or basketball, my belief is that durability isn't just this incidental factor. If Robert Traylor lands on your foot, that's one thing. But overall, durability must be factored into a player's overall value.
2004 Draftee under the age of 21 * 05-06 PER 06-07 PER
Shaun Livingston 10.26 10.71
Dwight Howard 19.37 20.13
Luol Deng 15.86 22.62
Andre Iguodala 14.86 17.68
Andris Biendris 13.69 21.48
Robert Swift 12.75 Hurt
Sebastian Telfair 13.02 13.69
Kris Humphries 9.54 10.31
Al Jefferson 16.23 14.92
Josh Smith 15.63 15.68
J.R. Smith 12.77 15.16
Dorrell Wright DNP DNP
Pavel Podkozine DNP DNP
Sergei Monia 6.19 DNP
*At the time of draft; first round picks only
Again, this isn't an indictment of Shaun, but I believe it's fair to open this up for discussion. At what point is it reasonable to say, "Anytime you're ready, Shaun." If Shaun turns in a 12-ish PER this season and another team throws a ton of money at Shaun, should the Clippers match at any expense?
The elephant may not be in the room, but he's definitely in the building.

from Clipperblog
Didn't want to spark another is Livingston a bust debate, but Clipperblog usually makes really good observations/points. The PER comparisons are rather interesting.
