Clippers offseason priorities, and donald sterling analysis
Priorities:
1. Sign a non-retread coach to a deal worth $$. I say Carlisle. One year removed from coach of year, young, and 2 straight division titles. From 1-12 i think the Clippers have more talent than the pistons...he can get it done.
2. Resign Brand to max contract. I dont even have to justify this..
3. Resign Odom. If this guy gets his act together, he could be a force. Hes the most talented all around player the clippers have.
4. Get Darius Miles back. The reason they clippers tanked this year is not because of contract issues, not because of gentry, not because of no mcciniss. Not because of Miller. Its because their chemistry went to pot when they traded miles. This year, it didnt seem as if they knew what a fast break was. remember the dallas clippers games from two years ago? 130-120 every game? No where to be found last year. The unit on the floor did not know how to play together. If it takes sending miller back, so be it. Just get miles back.
5. re-sign pike. They need a shooter, and it would be nice to see him retire in a clippers jersey.
I say let Olowokandi go. Bad attitude, injury prone, and i dont think he fits with the up tempo offense the clippers need to be successful. I say go with a small line up. Perhaps see if they can trade up for darko, or else trade down to get lempe. A post up center will not fit in the offense they need to run. a run and gun center is what they need. So get lempe, or darko, then bring wang off the bench, and bring ely into games against the 3-4 legit big guys in the leauge such as shaq.
For point guard, they should trade miller for miles, or to move up in the draft or SOMETHING. I think they only need 2 point guards....jaric and dooling. I say this because the third point could be odom in emergency situations. Magette...i say if he takes less money than he deserves, keep him, if he wants more, trade him for draft picks or something else. I really dont like him in the clippers offense. Seems like either him or odom can succed at once. They never do good together...if we keep odom, then that makes magette expendable.
This is the lineup i envision for next year:
Power Foward:
Brand - starter
Miles - he was effective at this position 2 years ago
Wilcox
Small Forward:
Odom - starter
Richardson
Walton(should take him in the 2nd round if available)
Center:
2003 Draft Pick
Wang
Ely
Shooting Guard:
Magette
Piatkowski
Point Guard:
Jaric
Dooling
Ok, now for some general ranting...You guys might think im crazy, but i think donald sterling has been a genius up until now. I honestly dont know why he has such a bad rap. People keep saying he doesnt want to pay people what they deserve. I say show me one of these cases, and i will show you 4 cases where they didnt deserve the money they were asking.
1. Olowokandi. Who would want him on the team? doesnt fit well into the offense. Hes injury prone...even tendinitis in the knee which might not go away. Inconsistent player. One night will score 15 and 10, the next night will score 5 and 6. I wouldnt want to pay him to be on my team. Let him go. lets see how effective he is somewhere else.
2. Loy Vaught. Yes, he was mr. clipper, but what did he do after he left the clippers? Not much at all.
3. Danny Manning? Hes still playing believe it or not, but check his numbers after he left the clippers....
4. Ron Harper? Never was more than average after the clippers.
5. Maurice Taylor? Injured a whole year....still has trouble cracking the rockets starting lineup.
6. Lorenzen wright? Similar situation as above.
The list goes on and on...Charles Smith, etc. etc. Granted, if donald doesnt sign brand, then this would mean he is smoking something, but until that happens, i think hes track record is excellent. Not perfect, but not the way the media portrays it.
