clippers draft history
baylor has made some horrible draft choices the past few years, i think they need to hire some sort of draft consultant to make draft choices in the future here is the past few years of bad first round choices:
2006 no first rounder
2005 #12 Korolev, this guy average like 4 points a game in the RUSSIAN league...he was a second round choice at best....players they couldve gotten: granger or green
2004 #4 Livingston, i dont really blame management on this one, but in hindsight he turned out to be a bad pick, always getting injured and is not developing very much, players they couldve gotten: devin harris, andre iguodala, al jefferson, luol deng, josh smith
2003 #6 Kaman, this was a decent pick, but considering how much of an extentsion we end up giving this guy is beyond belief, i like the player but we gave him WAY too much..and just think we were just one pick off from getting Dwayne Wade
2002 #8 Wilcox and #12 Ely, this falls under the are you kidding me? draft, two pretty god picks and we end up with two stiffs, imagine if they picked butler (shouldve been an obvious choice) or stoudemire (not so obvious, but we had a chance to get him!!)

Re: clippers draft history
2001 #2 Chandler for Brand, this is an essence the only draft that had actually worked out for the clips, u cant really ask for more considering this was a very weak draft and we end up with an all star like brand
2000 #3 Miles, this draft absoltley sucked!! clips escape this bad draft pick by default..i dont see one good player in this draft they couldve gotten, even over miles!
1999 #4 Odom, he turned out to be a good player, no all star, but this was a draft that had like 4 or 5 players that got picked after him that turned out to be better...marion, hamilton, artest, terry,
1998 #1 Candy Man, this has EASILY gotten to be the WORST pick in Clippers History....lol the Clips wouldve been better off getting like the 9th or 10th pick...this was a great draft and the clips get stuck with an absolute dud...players they passed up or couldve gotten....mike bibby, antwon jaminson, vince carter, paul pierce, dirk nowtizki,
1997 #14 Mo Talyor, what a difference a year makes, duncan #1 pick 1997, candyman #1 pick a year later, only if the clips had a horrible horrible year instead getting in the playoffs, see what im getting at here?? the clips have bad picks AND horrible timing
1996 #7 Lorenzen Wright, sigh.... this is making me kinda depressed, couldve gotten...kobe bryant, steve nash, peja stojakvich, jermaine oneal, these guys went #13 -17....wait didnt we have the #14 pick the next year?? ..............................AGHHH THE CLIPS ARE CURSED WHEN IT COMES TO THE DRAFT
past TEN years...TEN!!!..and look at all the stars we didnt pick.....and not ONE allstar for us??? i hope this year is the year we actually get an allstar calibur player......

Re: clippers draft history
i dunno about the rest of you, but i'm pretty much used to the usual draft day tragedy, even if we ended up with Conley or Durant or something, i couldn't get excited because our picks always end up turning out like crap.
That's why i think it's a better idea to trade our pick & minnesota's (cuz they'll both be wasted anyways) for an established player.
While our drafts have been horrible, we've been one of the better teams when it comes to trades (as rare as they might be).

Re: clippers draft history
With the 14th pick of the 2007 NBA Draft, the LA Clippers select...
lol don't hold your breath, this year should be a good one for the Clips; they're in good position to get a solid player either way.

Re: clippers draft history
I'll give Baylor a C+/C in the first round, but how about the second round?
2006: Paul Davis and Guillermo Diaz - passed on Dee Brown, Paul Millsap
2005: Daniel Ewing - passed up on Monta Ellis, Ryan Gomes, Ronny Turiaf
2004: Lionel Chalmers - passed up on Chris Duhon, Trevor Ariza
2003: Sofoklis Schortsanitis - passed on Steve Blake, Zaza Pachulia, Mo Williams, James Jones, Kyle Korver
2002: Mario Kasun[Traded To Orlando] - Flip Murray, Matt Barnes, Rasual Butler, Luis Scola still available
2001: No 2nd Rounder
2000: Marko Jaric - Eddie House, Michael Redd, Brian Cardinal, Jason Hart still available
1999: Rico Hill - Gordan Giricek, Francsisco Elson, Emmanuel Ginobili still available.
1998: No Pick
1997: No Pick.
[I put the guys remaning just to show that most of the time, Clippers made a solid pick]
------------------------------
2nd rounder is generally tougher, but I like what the Clippers have done in the second round. Jaric was a nice pick, Diaz and Sofoklis were good picks at the time, let's see how they end up being in the NBA. Ewing could be a solid backup, just not in the system of Dunleavy, Davis has no potential, but he can be someone that could be good for practice. Chalmers was just trash, pure trash. Hill and Kasun, I got no clue on.

Re: clippers draft history
Oh wow. The Clippers must have the worst draft history in the NBA. The Wolves should be 2nd, but they got Garnett.

Re: clippers draft history
The Clippers even sucked in the second round:
Quote:
2005: Daniel Ewing - passed up on Monta Ellis, Ryan Gomes, Ronny Turiaf
2004: Lionel Chalmers - passed up on Chris Duhon, Trevor Ariza
|
The Ewing pick made no sense, him and Chalmers are both the same type of players...

Re: clippers draft history
True, there have been some absolutely awful draft selections by the Clippers in past years. But to be fair, the current cornerstone players of this franchise were both acquired ON draft day. Mario Kasun resulted in the acquisiton of Corey Maggette and of course the Tyson Chandler deal which landed the franchise EB in LA. Livingston was not a bad pick, neither was Chris Wilcox or Quentin Richardson. Lamar Odom is an all-star talent and Darius Miles was well on his way to becoming one before he imploded so unceremoniously once arriving in Cleveland. Believe me, myself along with many other long-time Clippers fans have suffered through some much worse draft selections than these.
Let's talk about Bo Kimble, Randy Woods, LeRon Ellis, Terry Dehere, Elmore Spencer, Benoit Benjamin, DANNY FERRY!!! (Although Ferry did result in Ron Harper). Olowocrappy was probably one of the all-timers, but he did show signs of a promising future however briefly while he was here. What this draft holds only Clippers management knows, but you can't place the blame squarely on Elgin's shoulders. You have to remember who owns this franchise and has the ultimate say on every personnel move and for so many years had kept this franchise in the NBA doldrums...I can't even bring myself to say his name because I think he might very well be the embodiement of pure evil.

ya we say this each and every year. i have a bad feeling this will be another draft where we pick someone somewhat talented who was drafted to high just to have dunleavy not play them.
