Re: Summer League Game 3 vs Wolves
My take on this game is not far off from the last other than they won.
Al does look tired out there. I think it's from having to expend more energy on the defensive end now. I don't particularly like how long they leave him out there. Took some complicated shots also. Needs to get his legs under him.
Jordan seemed to be a bit over his head in this one IMO. He still is able to find players though. I noticed that when we tried to pick/roll both defenders are able to jump it before our pg can even get to the big(kaman). On d we get picked it seems every play. Read on Clipperblog that they feel that Jordan needs to shoot more also.
Diaz=same.
Conroy played better the longer he was out there. He seemed to gain confidence as the game progressed, which is good because as soon as he entered the game, i thought it was a wrap.
Kaman had another "dominating" performance out doing his previous rebound low with only 2 this game. The mystical, magical whirling dervish treated the fans with a thunderous dunk in the second half...OOOHHH...AAAHHH. Two plays that stood out from kaman: 1. Beautiful spin move on defender who almost falls down, Kaman 2 steps from the rim throws up a shot off the window...brick! Classic.
2. Opponent driving the lane Kaman looks at Davis patrolling the area said offenders is trying to penetrate on the oppositte block. Kaman then proceeds to leave his position to "help" block the shot, goes up the same time as Davis coincedently takes him and himself out of the play, leaves his block open for and offensive rebound and the opponents score on the next attempt. The nuances of so many things he did wrong in these 2(there were more) plays are the type of plays that make me wonder if Kaman is ever going to tap back in.
When he is in a rhythm, no one can stop him...it just usually takes him half the season to find it.
Davis played better but also needs to stop trying to put the ball on the floor. If he hadn't showed up this coulda gotten really ugly.
Forgot about Gansey because that's the impression he left on me this game. His ballhandling skills are clearly not on the level to be a pg.
Overall it still amazes me how intense the team comes out after the half like they hit the switch or something. I feel the only players on this team that have the stamina to play both ways out there out of the starters are Diaz and Kaman. Al and Jordan at least try. I expected more from Davis though. I'm not trying to take away from the strides he has made, but he is a vet in the summerleague and he knows what it takes at this level so his judgement is a bit harsher.
