R.I.P. Eddie Griffin
Man that's messed up. I really liked Eddie...I remember a couple of times when we could have got him. He was a good rebounder, an excellent shot blocker and good 3pt shooter...but like a lot of us young black males he had too many problems...I hate for this to happen to anybody, no matter what people think about them...R.I.P...vada
(sorry 'bout misspelling his name on the thread)

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Griffen
And the world moves on.
I really don't see his death as something I should cry or feel bad over though, to me it's just "the news." When you see death around you a lot living in the ghetto, and people getting shot at and dying this sort of news doesn't do it anymore.

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Griffen
If you insist on repeatedly driving while drunk, this is the kind of thing that ends up happening. It's a shame that he died so young before he cleaned himself up, but I wouldn't say it's a surprise and at least he didn't take anyone with him.

You know what Free, you were better off not responding to this thread like everyone else...
A life is a life...You know, that's some real heartless s*** that you said...
What if that was your friend, family member or neighbor???
No, I didn't shed a tear, but I do care about people (getting burned alive) regardless of what they might have done wrong in there lifetime when they die, especialy when their younger than me...
You really really need to explain yourself, "this sort of news doesn't do it anymore"???
Are you serious???
So what does it do for you???
Maybe if he wasn't black and he was Yao Ming or Tabuse you'd feel differently...
Peep this,
Reguardless of color, we all eat, sleep, s*** and die...
What you said was hella immature.
You should be glad that your still alive, and you should feel blessed that you didn't have to grow up with the problems that he had to grow up with...
s***,
I swear, I'm not trying to start anything, but damn, is the world that desencitized???
Free, do you live in the ghetto or do you just watch the news, music videos and movies???
All the Asians that own stores where I live don't live in the "ghetto"...
"And the world moves on". Yes it does, but are you serious???
You know, I try to be funny and joke alot when it comes to b-ball, but one thing I don't joke about is human life.
I've seen people get shot, have you???
He didn't even die by getting shot--so what's your point???
Life ain't a video game, we don't get extra men...
You know what, words are very powerful. They killed Jesus for the words that came out of his mouth, not just his miracles.
And at your young age I don't think you know how to(or care how to) properly use them...Words...
Finally, (and I don't care if you do it or not) you owe me and --his spirit--an apology...and yeah I said his spirit 'cause that's what wakes you me and everybody else on the earth up every morning by the grace of GOD, who you obviously don't belive in...
and another thing, I'm in South Central L.A.,
what ghetto are you from????
Tell that same s*** to his friends and family and see what reaction you get...
M*********z need to be more respectful in the words they use when it's concerning the dead...
R.I.P Eddie Griffin
and that's some real s***.

We don't even know that he was drunk driving...
Like yam would say, go by the facts...
We haven't seen any yet... he died on the 17th, they identified his body on the 22nd or 23rd through dental records...
That in it's self says that he was more than messed up...vada

He's a known alcoholic (which is a large part of the reason he was out of the NBA) and been busted for driving while intoxicated & multiple alcohol related crimes before. They had to use dental records because he got hit by a friggin' train & his car exploded, what'd you expect?
While you're right that theres no toxocology report out yet to confirm that he was drunk, it's not a stretch to say that its a likely scenario.

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Griffen
Wow, what the hell is going on with this forum? Even in a damn RIP thread, you guys manage to go right at each other?
RIP to Eddie though. He was someone I always wanted the Clippers to pickup because of how decent he was on court with his shotblocking and ability to knock down the midrange and 3 point jumpers. It's sad he died with having a chance to show his real basketball skills, along with fixing his image up. RIP.

I lived in the slums of south east Asia in a muslim country. I don't know about South LA but those places are bad.
I don't owe any one an apology, a life is a life, but the world moves on. If I died tomorrow, I'd pretty much expect the same. I don't expect people I don't know to be sad for me. I'd be sad for someone I know, but I don't know Griffin.
Also, it really doesn't matter what race kicks the bucket, whether it's black, white, asian, or hispanic guy, when people die, it's all the same. I don't know what you're going off of in terms of him being a black man. I don't really care too much unless I know the person who died personally. A few people I met and got acquainted with died about a year ago, and I didn't grieve, I just moved on with life.
This sort of news doesn't do it anymore because I hear about death all the time. People dying in Iraq, people dying in the hospital, children dying of cancer, a neighbor woman getting jumped, raped and then killed the next day. When we're on this forum, we talk about basketball because it gets us away from the everyday.
I guess you could say that I am sort of pissed off, because only once a person dies do people start "appreciating" him. When someone is dead, there's nothing that you can do for that person anymore, if you feel sad then feel sad. I felt sad when a family friend died, when a friend's parent died, when a patient dies in the room. What about these people?
We only care for people who are famous right?
Anyways, I'm dropping the topic. I'm here to talk about basketball, not my own personal beliefs. If you feel you need to respond to this, it's up to you, but I am dropping it.

You are an idiot...First off don't insult someone on their choice of words when you choose words like "hella" or "Mother.....z". Now to the argument. Of course he didn't DESERVE to die, but he was sure asking for it. He was on liquor or drugs, or both, which impaired his ability to drive and he paid the price. It sucks but I don't feel sorry for him at all, HE MADE THE CHOICES TO LIVE AND DIE BY THAT LIFESTYLE!!! Don't give me any crap either about how he grew up in "the hood" and thats the reason this happened. Plenty of people have worked their *** off to make it out of the "hood" and he had the chance handed to him on a golden platter. Now if someone is raped or murdered or in a car accident that wasn't their fault then that is horrible because those people did nothing wrong to deserve that fate. When I hear about a gang-member getting killed on tv im happy!!! The idiot deserved it, he might be dumb but Im sure he knew that sometimes gang members die and he sill chose to join! Now there is one less gangster idiot on the street and it will show to the younger kids that this isn't the way to go. Many people reached out to him (Griffin) before this and he didn't have the willpower to do the right thing. Yeah, being addicted to something it becomes hard to change, but it was his choice to begin with to start putting all that crap in his body. Im a realist, if I drive drunk and get in an accident and kill myself why should I recive any pity?!? Im a moron for doing that!!! Is it a shame Griffin had to die? Yes. Do I feel bad for him? Not in the slightest. Darwinism (not god)...look into it!
and that's some real s***...you P.C. idiot
