Dunleavvy's Free Agent and other Moves...

Its really hit and miss it seems with dunleavvy.

His first off season he took a run at kobe, arenas and others (or actually wasnt this in 04-05?) . He resigned brand and maggette, although i think they would have been resigned with or without him. He brought in Simmons for nothing, turned out great. Brought in eddie house, he turned out to be decent. Traded for Drobnjac, didnt turn out as expected, but he wasnt completely terrible, probably would be the first big off of the bench for us now if he were on our team. Brought in doug overton which was a waste. Brought in matt barnes. He turned out to be a good player, just not with us.

04/05 when he struck out with top FA's, they had a decision to make. Resign Q for big money, and health questions, and subsequently cap themselves out, or get an expiring deal so that next year they could make runs at the likes of Ray allen, etc. They went for the latter, and traded for kittles expiring deal which allowed them to make runs at FA's. He brought in rick brunson who was HUGE for us that year. Brought in Q Ross who again was a huge signing for the minimum. Brought in mikki moore for the minumum, another great move for that year. Brought in Z who was decent when he played. Took back darrick martin, stupid move, but by this time we were seeing dunleavvy's facination with journeyman guard scrubs. Heck, that year other than martin, we also wasted money on the likes of Kenny anderson, kirk penney, Maurice baker. All wastes of money. But over all a decent season of acquisitions.

05/06 We made the great deal to get Sam Cassell who almost singlehandedly turned us around. We went after the big guns, struck out, but still got mobley who has been solid. Some might consider him overpaid at this point in his career, but he has been one of our best SG's in a while. Let mikki moore go to keep rebraca, a terrible move. Traded wilcox for Radman, turned out fine inasmuch as regardless of talent, wilcox would never have done anything here, radman turned out fine the rest of the year. Brought in singleton who was a great pickup, but could never get out of dunleavvys dog house. Brought in mccarty, a great guy, but terrible move. Replaced N'diyaye with N'dong, nothing spectacular there. Brought in vin baker, another bad move. And the scrub guards of the year were Eisley and Goldwire, both wastes of time and money. All in all not that good of a year compared to the other two.

06-07 - Let radman go in order to sign Thomas. Nothing spectacular there other than the fact that thomas can play center at times, something radman couldnt do. Brought in jason hart the last part of the season, he worked out very well for us. Signed aaron williams, cassell had a little to do with this, but still, for the 1. whatever million we have to pay him, we probably could get just as good of value with a younger player with much less salary. Scrub guards this year that we got: Doug Christie, alvin williams, luke jackson. However FINALLY dunleavvy got the message that scrubs arent the way to go, lets take a chance at some young guys, so he did give conroy and wafer shots. Not a very eventful year acquisition wise. The big mistakes were not trading maggette for artest when the pacers were ready (or was that the year before?) And the biggest mistake (other than not trading for pierce the previous year), since not trading for charles barkly when we had the chance, was not trading for iverson when we had the chance. Again, not a good year moves wise

07-08 Who knows what trades if any we will make. But so far, we have struck out with guys like francis, but have picked up brevin knight, dickau, patterson, and powell. Singleton was let go even though we had a minimum level option on him. So unless we make a big trade, this might turn out to be the most uneventful season moves wise in dunleavvy's tenure.

Overall, his moves have been ok i guess, but still too many bad moves, and non moves that would have us in a better place right now. In reality, i think really he has until next year to turn things around. Then we just might see sterling eat the rest of his contract, as crazy as that may seem. Last year he didnt coach this team to what they could have done, and didnt pull the trigger on moves he should have. This year obviously we will do terribly, but it wouldnt be his fault, its the injuries. But next year, with brand back most likely, and with one of the top picks in the draft, and expiring deals that we could turn into sign and trades, i think its going to be all on dunleavvy. If he doesnt get out of the first round of th eplayoffs in 08-09 i think he is history.
