Re: Varejao?

the guy plays hustle defense, and in limited minutes averaged 7 and 7. Plus is perfect for our team right now since we have a HUGE hole at PF, and even in an ideal situation hes the perfect kind of guy to complement kaman. I really dont think that saying paying him 5 million a year for all that is way over valuing him

Now, if we were saying we should have signed him for 8 million dollars, then yes, no way.

If you were planning on a sign-and-trade with Varejao taking $6M per, then the Cavs would have just kept him anyway. That's the contract they wanted him to sign.

Re: Varejao?

Yes, but his first choice was not to stay.didnt the cavs offer him slightly more than that, just longer term? so it wasnt a matter of him just taking the deal from them, he even said he didnt want to stay.

However, he took the bobcats offer as a win win thing. If cavs dont sign he gets his wish and gets out to a team that needed him. If the cavs matched, then at least he had an opt out clause after 2 years.

The point is that the Cavs can match any offer, and they'd love to match him at $6M per or below, whether Varejao wants to be there or not.

So the Clippers wouldn't have gotten him, and they wouldn't have gotten anything else from the Cavs. Did you just want your front office to lob up a softball contract for the Cavs to match just to say you did it?

This situation is a complete loss for Varejao. He's getting less than one third of what he wanted, and he's not even getting a one-year deal where he can jet this coming offseason. Not to mention he looks like a complete fool in the eyes of any reasonable person for making ridiculous demands, sitting out almost a quarter of the season and then crawling back to Ferry because he and his agent blinked first.
