even without a top lottery pick, we might be okay next year...
kaman has really improved...offensively, but more importantly, i see a difference in his rebounding and overall defense...imagine how much better he will be by next year...dealing with the pressure of being the only defensive/offensive post presence on the team...trial by fire, and i hope he makes it through the season unscathed...now add brand and livingston coming back and it has been reported that brand has actually been working out...it has been reported that he has actually added 10-12 lbs. of muscle...
if we can somehow deal maggette for a decent sg(yama was right all along ) and slide thornton to corey's spot we can do decent...and the way things are going right now, we could probably get a top 3 pick anyway...
pg: livingston
sg: mobley
sf: thornton
pf: brand
ce: kaman
add to that anyone we can get for corey, and maybe even luck into the top 3 for a chance at rose/beasley/mayo/gordon...
not looking that bad at all...
i just hope dunleavy doesn't take someone like koufos/hibbert/love/budinger....but knowing dunleavy...
just my thoughts...bored at work...

Re: even without a top lottery pick, we might be okay next year...
why can toronto's front office find players like jamario moon, and we can't???
anyways, here's the quote and link about elton's muscle increase:

We did find players like Moon, some better, some worse, arguably or not. These players include Bobby Simmons, Quinton Ross and James Singleton.

Re: even without a top lottery pick, we might be okay next year...
Budinger i think is perferct for this offense. I really dont think dunleavvy is just anti athletic players...i think hes against athletic players who rely too much on their athleticism and/or play uninspired. Budinger, youd never know is the uber athlete most of the time, because he relies on basketball smarts before athleticism. Hes like a korolev, except with 10X the skill and talent.
I wouldnt taken budinger top 4, but if we SOMEHOW fall out of the top 5 in the lottery id want him over almost anyone else, just because of the coach we are stuck with. I dont know of another guy in this draft more tailor made for dunleavvy than budinger. A combo SG/SF with average while not spectacular handles...incredible midrange and 3 point shooting skills, incredible basketball smarts and instinct, great passer, team player.
Heck, if livingston all of a sudden had a miraculous recovery, became an incredible PG, and if brand resigned for around 10 million a year (long shot), and we STILL got the 1-3 pick. Id be happy to trade down to get budinger, and pass on beasley, mayo, rose, and pick up other pieces in the process. (none of this livingston and chalmers for okafor nonsense).
I disagree with what lawler and smith were saying. I really cant see kaman and brand both succeeding. Kaman is doing well because he has tons of room to roam, and half the plays are run for him. Hes able to work out of bad stretches. Brand needs the ball. Kaman would only get a fraction of the plays hes getting now, and we might see him rush things since he doesnt want to miss the opportunity. Granted, kaman, even with brand is a decent 12/9 player. However, if were paying kaman 50 million id like to see better numbers than that.
If we dont get high lottery pick next year, i dont see us amounting to anything, UNLESS brand opts out and we can pick up some star like arenas somehow, or we do some kind of sign and trade deals.

by the way, brand was at his best when he LOST a lot of weight and bulk. He was quicker and was able to do more things. I dont think adding 10 pounds, even if its muscle is a good thing.

well yes....it all depends on HOW HEALTHY WE ARE, but it seems like the Clippers are doomed into an eternity of sucking and things hit em from left n right to keep this going (this year....injuries) really when was the last time we were totally healthy?

Yep. Simmons, Boykins, Singleton, Barnes...etc. The Clippers scouting department usually does a good job finding guys like this, the only problem is that the franchise never keeps them!

I agree with you here, Kaman is the only low post presence which is allowing him free-reign on the block. When Elton returns he'll once again become the focal point in the offense and take a lot of rebounds away from Chris. Now, if Kaman can keep up the defensive intensity while deferring to Elton on the offensive end, they would be an almost unstoppable duo.

that's what i was hoping for...i know kaman would be relegated to being the #2 post option once elton comes back, but the combined rebounding and interior defense of kaman and brand was what i was hoping for...
by the way, i wonder if a maggette for odom trade would be possible??? since all of our pg's are not playmakers except cassell, we could use a point foward like odom...
lakers need a second scorer and aren't happy with odom right now, we need someone to create for others, and we aren't happy with maggette....hmmmmmmmm....

Re: even without a top lottery pick, we might be okay next year...
aside from the fact that clippers lakers will probably never ever trade with each other, i think theres too much bad blood between odom and the clipps organization to make that work. But i would love him. Hes another one of those dunleavvy type guys that would be perfect for his offense.

Re: even without a top lottery pick, we might be okay next year...
I would be content with Budinger by if we pick between 4-8 picks, I would take Eric Gordon. This guy is like Arenas, but plays with a bit more discipline. The thing that I like about him most is that he has that killer instinct that few players have. He brings it every game and can score from anywhere on the court. The Clippers desperately need a guard like that who they can give the ball to let him take over games.
And I agree with yama about how Odom would be a good fit for the Clippers but there is just too much bad blood between the Clips and Odom for it to happen
