Saw the link on realgm.com from a boston newspaper. No surprise. Interesting things mentioned in there, of how hes got money saved up, but winning is the important thing.

That leads me to believe that hes willing to take a lot less than the rest of his contract, in order to get to boston.

Financially it might be good for the Clippers. (if they cant get some kind of value in return via trade). They would save who knows maybe 1 million from what they owe him...then isnt it true that whatever he signs with boston for, that is subtracted too from the buyout? Not sure on that. But i guess it would potentially make us about 1.5 million dollars (we might not care about sterlings pocket, but business is business, and 1.5 million could be used for a lot of things).

The only thing i would consider first is some how trading cassell to the grizz for a deal involving miller...because most likely the grizz would actually WANT to go ahead and buy him out. Imagine that. They rid themselves of whats owed to miller. THey get the expiring deal in cassell, but not only that, they can buy him out, and end up paying even less money which seems to be their goal.

Mike Miller for Sam Cassell and Aaron Williams. Get er done.

Memphis is happy they go more under the cap, save money with the buyout, williams also is expiring.

CLippers happy they get a SG who fits what dunleavvy wants big time.

Cassell happy he gets bought out, and can go to boston. Elgin, please try!

very interesting. didnt the original article use direct quotes? Ive heard of "sources" saying something that ended up being denied, but i cant imagine a journalist straight up mis quoting completely a player..hed be fired..

He used direct quotes but Cassell never said he wanted a buyout in the first report. I think the author asked questions that tried to skew the situation, I don't know. I am more inclined to believe Cassell since though he may have a big mouth I don't think I have heard him ever lie, he tells it like it is. He is a straight shooter.

I like the Clippers' approach to this. As much as I would like to see Sam get the chance to play for a contender, I don't just want the Clippers to give him away. But I doubt that they can get a first round pick for a 38 year old player, even if it is Sam.

I believe Sam. The media tends to twist comments in order to create something that isn't there.

Sammy to Phoenix for their TPE and the Hawks first round pick.
followed by
Brevin Knight to Dallas for their TPE and a 2nd round pick.

Then we try to get Jordan to sign with us, along with Diaz and let them try to earn a contract for next season.

pretty optimistic of the clippers to think theyre getting a 1st rounder from someone for cassell. Not sure who would do something like that.

Maybe phoenix if its true they do have a trade exception, or if they have another deal they want to get rid of. Now that they have shaq, they might not be playing as high tempo as before, and sam would be fine in that system. plus sam chucks it with the best of them, and danotni always has given his players a green light

I know usually teams dont trade within the division, but clippers know theyre not going to do anything this year...its not like cassell is going to be a big force for phoenix for years to come, and a 1st rounder is very nice. Not to mention every year phoenix gives away their first rounders it seems for nothing due to salary cap concerns.
