Clippers set to stand pat through trade deadline

Point guard Sam Cassell has been the subject of continued rumors, leaving the team either with a buyout or a trade. But when asked about the Cassell situation Tuesday, Dunleavy said, "There is no Sam situation."
Dunleavy added that he and Elgin Baylor, the team's vice president of basketball operations, will continue to make calls of inquiry, listen and consider other teams' proposals, and follow the rumors, until the deadline passes.

It's time to get active on the phones and see about moving Maggette. He's playing very well right now and this is going to be their last chance to get something for him.

This could just be an attempt to keep everything quiet, but I'll be damn surprised if we don't deal Sammy and/or Maggette by the deadline.

Remember last year when we were all so sure Maggette would be traded by the deadline and then nothing happened? I have an unfortunate feeling that Dunleavy is telling the truth here, and that the Clippers will just continue being horrid next year when Sam and Maggette bolt.

Sadly, i think this is 100% true. Even with Brand back next year, we've still got no shot at anything beyond an 8th seed. Apparently that's all management needs to be satisfied.
