if you were the coach...
talk about now, draft and 08-09 season.
i would let maggette and thornton have free reign all day everyday. especially since the clippers have been really boring and everyone else can't score.
thorn kaman are the future. i would resign brand especially in the west where post presence is very important and try with maggette and if not make a run for artest. yes the crazy guy, i am hoping that brand can keep him in check and do the dirty work for us. as far as the pg goes, i would hope for livingston to mature. i know its a miracle, but i dont think there are that many good PG in the FA.
i would try and make a run for arenas, but we dont have the cap space to do so. as far as the draft pick, i use that and draft the next available player. i dont believe in drafting what you need.

Re: if you were the coach...
Ya know, even though a bunch of people here are really high on ron artest's skills... i think he's declined quite a bit over the past couple of years to the point where Maggette is an equal overall basketball player. Statistically he appears the same, but he just doesn't seem like the same kind of impact player he was in Indiana.
Livingston is done as an NBA player. He may come back, but he'll get injured again, before he even got that horrible injury he was already approaching Bill Walton's level of "most injured player ever"
I really think the only thing to do is work out a sign & trade for Brand (for nothing less than 2 1st rounders and a quality young player). Ask Maggette if he'll stick around for roughly the same 8mil per year, if not try to work out another s&t rather than let him go for nothing.
Then with our 3 (or possibly 4 1st rounders if we're lucky) begin to rebuild the clippers... ideally, getting Arenas to be the new franchise player, or draft Rose/Mayo... hopefully bring over Sofo... it'll give us a core of:
PG: Arenas (or Rose/Mayo)
SG: ???
SF: Thornton
PF: ??? (or Sofo)
C: Kaman
We'll still have at least two 1st round picks to trade away, hopefully trading them away for a solid young SG/PF. Play as best as possible for 08-09, then see what we can get for Mobley's & Thomas's contracts in the future. In about 2-3 seasons with that group we should be able to contend for a championship, and the window for it will be much longer than the last clippers group. Of course the most important piece to the puzzle is firing dunleavy/baylor/medical staff for people who can utilize our talent to its fullest.

Re: if you were the coach...
I'd get rid of Maggete and Brand, trading to teams with higher picks in this draft to try and get Mayo and Rose. Then let Thornton and Kaman have free reign. Next, bring in Sofo, cause it's been too long, I don't care if he's overweight, if I play him 42 minutes a night he's bound to get in shape one way or another.
Next, trade Livingston away for anything I can get off of him, re-sign Ross and give him the OK to shoot whenever he gets the ball. And well, we'll just force the rookies and young players to play hard and try to find ways to win. I think they could at least be a promising team like the Blazers.

Re: if you were the coach...
god, really it seems the last time we were even any good offensively and had a reliable shooter was when we had pike, its funny that the suns signed him as a free agent but what has he averaged a season since he got there? like .5 mins a game?
WE REALLY NEED SOME SHOOTERS or a shooter, a guy that thats all he does is shoot , kinda like Frahm but GOOD......

i really want Arenas but damn he's going to be expensive. Arenas would give the clippers an Identity.

Well, *if* his knee is fully healed, he'll be worth every penny even at max dollars. But his injury might bring down his value a bit, so its possible he might not get a max deal (still 10+mil at least though), if that's the case, the clips better jump all over it.
