Clippers' ship lost in a fog

Quote:
This conversation last Monday tended to ratify that, except, of course, that Thompson and I both knew that Sterling had nixed a deal for Mike Miller at the trade deadline because it would have involved giving up LA's No. 1 pick. Sterling doesn't so much care about the pick as he does about the monetary value assigned to that pick - around 10 to 15 percent of what Miller makes.

Mike Miller? Come on, isn't Dunleavy becoming like Isaiah Thomas?

Re: Clippers' ship lost in a fog

I dont understand why the papers (la times too) were badmouthing sterling for nixing this trade. The ONLY way its a good deal is if it was say top 5 protected. Why in the world would we give a potentially top 5 unprotected pick for mike miller? Thats ridiculous. I cant believe dunleavvy even would try to pull that.

Re: Clippers' ship lost in a fog

^^yeah I'm happy that they didn't give up our pick for Mike Miller. They try to make it sound like we could have got KG or Kobe or something. Plus that would have been more than the Lakers gave up to get Gasol.

Re: Clippers' ship lost in a fog

i'm totally with Sterling on this one, Miller could help us, but that price is wayyy too high.

I'd happily have given up 2 picks & a pile of crap for Gasol though, doubt that trade was available to anyone other than the lakers though.

Re: Clippers' ship lost in a fog

Yeah, but who knows. If we would have offered our first to memphis for gasol, plus expiring deals of maggette and cassel, they might have considered it.

personally i would have loved to do an all encompasing trade of say brand, maggette, cassell for Gasol, Miller, lowry. Considering what we would have next year it would have worked out to Gasol, miller lowry instead of brand, first round pick. Who knows maybe we could even have gotten away with next years 1st plus the minnesota first if we were able to pull a deal like that.
