Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...,3262949.story
Quote:
"People can look at it like that, but I've pretty much established myself in the league," he said. "I don't know how the off-season works, but I'm sure [other teams] could see me somehow without playing and have enough confidence in my ability that I can still play. So I don't think I need to come back to showcase myself to other teams."
Even though Brand can become a free agent, most talk is about him recovering to help next year's team.
"I'm not one to just up and leave a situation," he said. "I'm not a quitter. I owe it to the fans. I owe it to Coach [Mike Dunleavy]. He's out there coaching every single play."

If he does opt out, the Clippers are intent on re-signing him and can tack on another year to Brand's deal, while other teams can only offer him deals of up to five years.

Re: Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
I'm not sure whether I want him to stay for another season and just worry about him next year, or have him opt out this year so that we can blitz our money on re-upping him and then focus on other FA's next year. Either way: I want Brand back for a long, long time.

eb is a class act, but really is it worth keeping him around if we are going to continue to lose?

Re: Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
Sorry to lurk but I'm just curious what you would consider his value (as well as maggette who looks more likely to opt out). Do you think the clippers would bite on something like this:
Raps Give:
Jose Calderon(S & T) 8-9 Mil
Bargnani
First Rounder (This years draft... projected 18 )
Filler: Clips choose from:
a)Parker
b)Garbojosa + a 2nd
c)Moon + Maceo Baston
d) Jason Kapono + 2nd (Unlikely they'll take him and his contract)
Clips Give:
Brand (S & T) 11 Mil
Maggette (S & T) 9 Mil
It gives you guys solid prospects & Cap flexibility for two players that could leave for nothing anyways.

the clippers lost because the clippers had a crappy team...when the clippers finally had a good team, dumbleavy's coaching move put us out of the playoffs...next year, pending the draft, we will once again have a good team...brand is the last person anyone should blame for our losses...
next year's lineup:
pg: livingston / mayo / knight
sg: mayo / mobley / ross
sf: maggette / thornton / ross
pf: brand / thomas / thornton
ce: kaman / powell
or if we're really lucky:
pg: rose / livingston / knight
sg: mobley / ross
sf: maggette / thronton
pf: brand / thomas / thornton
ce: kaman / powell
we definitely have a shot...

Re: Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
If Brand opts out, and takes less money so we can make serious run at Gilbert Arenas, then I'd say we're a contender next season so long as we re-sign Maggete for a fair price, Livingston makes his comeback, Thornton continues to develop and Kaman stays healthy.
Also, Quinton Ross will finally be effective again, cause with all those offensive options on the floor he's not required to score.
Think about it.
Starters:
Brand
Kaman
Maggette
Arenas
Ross
Bench:
Mayo (Rose if we're damn lucky)
Livingston
Mobley
Thornton
Thomas
Dikaue
Knight
Sofokilis (He'll get in shape if we play him constantly)
And then scrubs who are signed but never play.

so we'll have brand, arenas, maggette and kaman...all four of them??? i would absolutely love that, and if we could somehow get rose in the draft...damn...even if we only got mayo/bayless/westbrook/gordon...wow...add a developing thornton and the only thing were missing is a backup 4/5, but sofo should take care of that...championships for years to come...

Re: Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
I keep reading that Brand wants to return this season? Is this true? And are there any indications, when exactly, if yes?

Re: Clippers' Elton Brand: 'I'm not a quitter'
dont we need to get rid of maggette in order to have enough space for arenas?

We should be able to get rid of Livingston/Williams/Knight(buyout) to clear up about 8 mil + Cassell's 6 mil = 14 mil capspace, so it might be do-able. If we can do a sign & trade for Mobley (9 mil) or Thomas (6 mil) + a 2nd rounder or two, then we'll definitely have enough space to sign Arenas & keep Maggette.
We'd be a bit shallow, but i'd be happy to go to war with:
PG: Arenas
SG: Maggette
SF: Thornton
PF: Brand
C: Kaman
with a possible bench of:
OJ Mayo (or whoever your favorite 1st rounder is)
Thomas (or Mobley)
Sofoklis
Ross (if he's resigned on the cheap)
+ 4 more warm bodies.
