Press Release -
The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Marcus E. Williams from the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League for the remainder of the season and waived forward Aaron Williams. Marcus Williams is the 23rd Gatorade Call-up from the NBA Development League this season.
Selected in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs , Marcus Williams appeared in seven preseason games with the Spurs and averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds before being waived on Oct. 27 and joining the Toros. The former University of Arizona standout re-signed with the Spurs on Dec. 26 and played in one game before being waived on Dec. 29. [READ]

Wow. That's a dece signing. We have now signed 2 incredibly solid and legit rookies in the last couple of weeks. Both were early 2nd round picks and both could've gone first. I really like this signing and am very pleased. It doesn't mean much, but Williams has a ton of potential and could make some real noise in training camp next year, maybe even make the 08-09 team if Dunleavy can adjust his attitude. To Dunleavy's credit, as bad of a coach as he is, he is pretty good at quashing bad attitudes (ala Sam Cassell).

Um..ok. Not sure why the Clippers continue to waste money on this season. Hopefully this is a move that will shut Kaman down or something or else I don't see why it is done.

Re: Williams Swap: Clippers Sign Marcus, Waive Aaron
Good signing, most thought he would be picked late in the first round last year. He's a really good ball handler and passer, and has a nice midrange game and very verstile. Only 21, so he has alot of upside and would be our youngest player. And about time the Clippers brought in a real SG other than Mobely.
But he is known to have an attitude problem and isn't crazy atlethic.

Great signing. Marcus was someone I really enjoyed watching while he was @ 'Zona. He's pretty versatile, athletic and good defender. A real Dunleavy type player in my opinion. I think this means Thornton will get less time now, which is good because he is pretty damn hurt.

Ah I was thinking of someone else earlier, for some reason thought Marcus was a big. Now I remember him, though not sure how much time he is going to get.

Re: Williams Swap: Clippers Sign Marcus, Waive Aaron
Great move. Dont get me wrong, i cringed when i heard people saying a couple years ago how they hoped we would get him with our lottery pick, because he to me was the ultimate non dunleavvy type player. Howeve,r picking him up for the minimum? WONDERFUL. Remember, this is the team that usually around this time picks up scrubs like doug christie and luke jackson.
I dont think he will get a lot of playing time unless he changes his game a lot. I am not as enamored with his ball handling as some scouts have said, and his passing, even worse....things that have kept guys like maggette and thornton in dunleavvys dog house in the past. But at his age (Three years younger than Thornton, one year younger than livingston), he still has upside if he can fine tune his game (and head).
Like weasel said, it is kind of a waste of money inasmuch as Aaron's contract was guaranteed, but i think in the long run it will save us money if we resign him, as opposed to getting a veteren next year who would cost more (due to vet minimum salary rules).
I am excited about marcus williams and nick fazekas possibly taking the roster spots of Paul Davis and dan dickau next year. (wish it was brevin knights spot, but his contract is guaranteed)

Very good move, a hell of a lot better than Nick Fazekas. Like other's have said he's a 1st round talent for sure. Low risk, high reward move.

He got his first action today vs. the Grizz. He didn't register a point but ended the game with a rebound, a foul, and a very nice assist in about a minute and a half of play.
