Elton on upcoming contract talks!
Addressing speculation that he will opt out of his contract, Brand said: "I'm planning to be a part of this team next year. I'm not saying I'm not opting out or am opting out. But negotiation-wise, as long as everything is fair, I expect to be back here. My agent, David Falk, will take care of the arrangements, but that's the goal."
I like our chances of resigning him or at least getting one year more out of him with the ballclub.

Thats very positive. Brand has always been a honest guy so I tend to believe something like this when it comes out of his mouth.

That is good to hear for LA. Teams are going to go hard at him.

Re: Elton on upcoming contract talks!
My question, actually, is this: We obviously want to keep Brand as long as we can. Because of his injured year, do we try to get him to opt out and get him a longer contract this year, or gamble, wait until next year, and hope other teams don't break the bank?

I hope EB opts out so we can give him a longer contract, I don't want to be worrying about him leaving this time next year like we are now.

And although he did not emphatically say for certain, all signs point to Brand not opting out of the final year of his contract this summer to survey the free-agent market.
It appears that he intends to return next season to join a healthy Livingston, play beside the much-improved Kaman and mesh with this season's rookie upstart Al Thornton.
"That's the plan," Brand said. "I'm contractually obligated. My agent, David Falk, will take care of all the (details). But that's the goal."

Shoot. Well there goes any chance in free agency for us to land someone noteable. Oh well. Will be fun to barely miss the playoffs/get 8th seed and first round exit next year.
