Clippers lose tiebreaker
http://www.latimes.com/sports/basket...,2502229.story
Quote:
Because they finished tied with the Knicks for the fifth-worst record, a drawing will be held today to decide which team has the higher percentage chance of landing the top pick.
By Jonathan Abrams, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

It's somewhat of a tradition. But this year, the bounce of the ping-pong balls and all the hope and anxiety that bob with them will be felt twice by the Clippers.
Because the Clippers ended the season 23-59, tied with the New York Knicks for the league's fifth-worst record, today NBA executive Stu Jackson is scheduled to pull a ping-pong ball that will determine which club has a higher percentage chance of landing the top draft pick.
If he pulls a ball with a Clippers logo, the Clippers will receive an 8.8% chance of landing the top pick. If it is a Knicks logo, the Clippers will have 6.3% odds for the first pick.

Re: Tiebreaker to be broken tomorrow (Friday)
This tiebreaker thing is actually pretty significant IMO. I saw if we get the 5th best chance at #1, we will at least get Bayless or Mayo, but I have a feeling that if we get the 6th pick we will be stuck in a bad spot cause I think Rose, Beasley, Bayless, Lopez and Mayo all will be taken in the top 5. Which leaves the Clippers with only one real option, Eric Gordon, who is far from the PG we need.

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
Damn, I really don't think we can address our point guard need if we get the 6th pick. If we get the 6th pick I woulden't be too mad and select the best player on the board imo a Sf or we could go for Eric Gordon

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
Why not the best player on the board would be Dannielo(sp) why not draft him and try to get arenas/davis to LA. Have EB take a pay cut and let see how the dice rolls

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
Yeah Arenas is the star we need, he brings the cockyness that Sam had and the ability to take over a game with both his offense and D

You know, I would love to see Arenas in a Clippers uniform, and believe he would be a key piece along Elton Brand, but really... it's a pretty big stretch to say he can take over a game with his defense. Offense, no doubt; defense, not so much.
In the end though, it's a moot point since we have a greater chance of winning the draft lottery than getting him as a free agent.

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
Well if brand opts out we will have probably a better chance than any other team than washington of signing him in free agency.
Otherwise if brand stays, theres pretty much zero chance, unless hes going to take 7 million or something which wont happen in a million year.s
BTW, any doubt the clippers would lose even this simple 50.50 coin toss? Oh brother. Watch us get like the 8th pick because two teams behind us jump up.....YIKES!

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
I know this might be a little late, but losing this tie-breaker isn't as huge as it seems. Since we finished with the same record as the Knickerbockers for the 5th worst record, you add the ball combinations 5+6 would have, which is 151 in this case. So each team gets 75 combinations, and losing this tiebreaker gave the Knicks 1 additional combination, so they have 76, to our 75. Not that huge, besides the fact that the lowest we can pick now is 9 and the Knicks 8, but that's unlikely to happen.

Re: Clippers lose tiebreaker
They should have played an exhibition game. That's the only fair way to break a tie!
