Olowokandi's Agent Issues Ultimatum
By ELLIOTT TEAFORD, TIMES STAFF WRITER
The agent for Clipper center Michael Olowokandi has set a Wednesday deadline for the team to sign his client to a long-term contract extension worth more than $80 million. If the two sides can't reach an agreement by then, Olowokandi will accept his one-season qualifying offer and look to sign elsewhere when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.
"I don't want this to go into training camp unsettled," Bill Duffy, Olowokandi's agent, said Friday. "I would like to see a resolution by Wednesday."Ê Ê
Ê Ê
Ê ÊÊWhen asked if that meant Olowokandi would not re-sign with the Clippers next summer if a new contract wasn't reached Wednesday, Duffy said, "Never say never. Obviously, it's Michael's decision."
Said Olowokandi: "I don't want it to seem unfair by holding the Clippers to Wednesday, but they had all summer to get the deal done. ... I hope it gets done by Wednesday. I feel like I've found my niche here. I'd like to be part of something that started out basically from nothing five years ago."
The Clippers declined to comment.

I think the Clippers aren't too bright, but they could care less, they haven't cared about players forever.

Olowokandi accepts qualifying offer from Clippers
Sep 23, 6:26 PM (ET) _Email this Story
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Restricted free agent Michael Olowokandi has accepted the one-year qualifying offer of about $6.1 million extended by the Los Angeles Clippers nearly three months ago.
Negotiations on a long-term deal stalled last week, and the 7-foot, 270-pound center will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
"I'm looking forward to getting to work," the 27-year-old said in a statement issued by the team Monday. "We have a very good team, and I'm excited to get the season under way."

Kandi doesn't deserve the Big Prize, everyone know's that. He thinks 11 & 8 is a MAX performance??....yeah right. He did improve but will that be consistant?? he's decent and I think we've seen the best he has to offer as a player, not bad at all, but definitely not worth the MAXX!!. Donald might be considered the tight wadd or the cheap skate GM....but in this situation he might be the smarter one out of both sides.
I'd like to see Kandi stay with the Clipps though, His style of play suits them perfect. Brand will be their main post-banger and like I've mentioned before......Brand is the only Maxx acception on that team - 20-20 player and a consistant hard work ethic to go with it, an All-star to top it off.

Kandi has shown improvement, but he is not worth $80mill.
I'm glad the team didn't sign him for that much money. He is not worth it. Signing him to that type of deal, means at least one of Odom, Miller, and Brand has to go. I'd keep those 3 over Kandi any day.
If Kandi proves this year he's worth that money, then give it to him. Regardless of what he says, if he's offered that money next year, he's gonna take it from the Clips.
Im a little disappointed to not see an extension for anyone come this summer, but Id rather be disappointed than be upset that they overpaid for Kandi.

I'm sure they'll be working out something with Brand Next, from the way the Clippers brass has sounded all off-season, their top priority was to work things out with Elton
