Clippers Season Opener Break Down
Tonight we begin our 2002-03 season with
 vs
Projected Clipper Lineup
Pg Andre Miller
Sg Quentin Richarson
Sf Corey Maggette
Pf Elton Brand(might not start, but should play)
C Zhizhi Wang/ Cherokee Parks(really a toss up)
Projected Cavs Lineup
Pg Bimbo Coles
Sg Ricky Davis
Sf Darius Miles
Pf Tyrone Hill
C Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Match ups
Pg. Well it's no secret that the Cavs have one of if not the worst point guards in the league. Andre Miller vs Bimbo is no real real comparison. Miller is a great play maker capable of breaking down defenses and finding the open man. We have great depth with Jaric who could start for some teams and Dooling at the position. They have Milt Palacio. Look for Andre to show why he is a premier player in the league and treat Bimbo like well... a Bimbo.
Advantage. Clippers
Sg. The Cavs have a good shooting guard in Ricky Davis but not to much talent after that. The Clippers have one of th best young shooting guards in Quentin Richardson who should break out this year and the sharpshooter Pike who plays great alongside Dre. Also look for Jaric to maybe play some two today. Jumaine may have to handle some duties here also seeing as how Wagner wont play.
Advantage. Clippers
Sf. The Cavs probably have the best young small forward in Darius Miles. While the Clips have the improving Corey Magettee. Darius is an athlethic freak with great handles, good height, and decent court vision and can finish it above the rim, he must play consistent and smart though. Corey is an outstanding athlethe who improved during the summer and look for him to showcase that during this game. He has improved his decision making and it really shows. Look for other players such as Jones to log some minutes here too.
Advantage. Tie
Pf. Also no real contest here. We have one of the top 5 power forwards while they have Hill. Hill is a great hustle player capable of crashing the boards and playing solid defense. Elton Brand may be injured but still should prove more than enough for Hill to handle. Look for the young Clips like Wilcox to get some minutes because Elton probably will not play his usual amount of minutes due to injury.
Advantage. Clippers
C. When healthy Zeke is one of the best centers in the east capable of commandding a double team, that is when healthy. Kandi man probably will not play so look for the newly aquired Wang to get some minutes he is a perfect complent to the our offense capable of hitting the outside shoot. The Clippers will probably play a rotation at the center spot that include such players as Rooks due to Kandi Man's injury. Also look for second year man Diop of the Cavs to play some.
Advantage. Tie(if Kandi does not play)
Look for the Clippers to finally get a win on opening night something they have not done in a while. The game should not be to close look for the clips to win by about 13 points. Look for it to be Dre Day in LA
Go Clips Get down

Clippers should win by 20!!!!
I'm gonna be real mad if I can't watch the game live. I have league pass, but the blackout rule is confusing for clipper fans. Fox sports West 2 doesn't cover clips games anymore, therefore why should the game be blacked out in L.A., there is no local station to protect. But since the Cleveland local channel is covering it, it might be blacked out here which makes no sense.
If I can't watch it i'll be askin you Jmac910 for some details.
I think Kandi will play limited minutes, and Wang is gonna have a big night.

Clips opener reviewed
The match-ups:
PG: Andre vs Bimbo/Palacio
Andre played his usual solid game with 15 pts and 14 assists, but Bimbo and the rest of the Cavs know Andre's game VERY well, and were able to force him out of his comfort zone which are post ups. Bimbo and Palacio had a solid game, but unspectacular.
Huge Advantage: Clippers
SG: Good spirited match-up later in the game after Ricky Davis head-thumped. Both Q and the crowd took exception to the gesture and Q and Ricky started jawing the rest of the game. However, Ricky feeds off that. Both players had a solid game, but Ricky's numbers were clearly superior- 25pts, 7rebs, 8 assts, 3 stl to Q's- 17pts and 7rebs (I did'nt catch all the stats). Jaric played a little, and looked good. Jumaine Jones played a little and looked good. Neither player will get a lot of minutes unless there is foul trouble or injuries, but are both great players to have coming in off the bench.
Clear Advantage: Cleveland
SF: Darius wants to play better than he currently is, after two games. He had a quiet 15pts, 5 rebs, but Corey had 17pts, a number of spectacular blocks, and some very physical boards and overall play. Maggette looked very good, but it doesn't seem like the Clips run many set plays for him.
Clear Advantage: Clippers
PF: Elton started and played, but is obviously not 100%. Rooks played well, Wilcox had a few minutes. Tyrone Hill, who many people write off, but he's had double-doubles both nights, tonight 17pts, 13rebs. You can't ask more than that.
Clear Advantage: Cleveland
Center: Nice match-up between Olawakandi and Illgauskas. Good tough battle. Z is regaining his form of 3 years ago, and is an offensive threat whether people admit it or not. He is 7'3, strong, and a good touch. 19pts, 9 rebs. Candy looked very smooth. He has made huge progress on offense, needs to be more aggressive on defense. 18pts, 13 rebs. Z hit the fade-away jumper with 2 seconds left to win the game. Wang did not play, Diop played a few minutes and did distrupt the defensive paint with a few blocks in a short period.
Advantage: Tie
Conclusion: A nice win for Cleveland, a game the Clips should not have lost... but they did. The Clips could not put Cleveland away, they lost the ball a lot on steals, and had many more turnovers and probably gave up more fouls. Cleveland battled with more poise, which is surprising since they have almost a completely new starting line-up this year. Clippers have a lot of changes in their line-up too, but they obviously did not play up to expectations. After watching Clev get completely man-handled by Sacramento last night, and then watching the Clips tonight, LAC has a long way to go yet and a short time to get there... basically this year before all the max contract demands start kicking in? Andre and Kandi and Elton would seem to be cornerstones, but will Sterling pay-out 3 maybe 4 max contracts? Doubt it. So that means this is the year that the Clips have to show major improvement. This was only their first game, but they have a lot of work to do to....fast.
Cleveland 98, Clippers 96

Me I blame the league for the loss. Everyone knows they should have suspended Zydrunas Ilgauskas for at least two games. How long will this injustice stand.

Thats it???
I expected a little more thoughtful analysis based on the degree of smack you direct to the Chicago board.
How about a little insightful breakdown on what went wrong not just childish whining?

It's called a joke Peter. I am not really blaming the loss on the DUI. We did not play well at all. There are plenty of reasons why we lost such as being careless with the ball with 17 TO's and not putting the CAVS away when we should. I am not that naive to think we lost because he was not suspended, that would just be dumb. I joke a lot maybe I wasn’t clear enough that it was a joke

The Bulls didn't do a very good job protecting the ball either - especially early, but managed to win. Anything else that went wrong?
Opening against the Cavs had to be a good omen with your injuries and given their inept opener against Sac. Too be honest, I had to check the final score on two sites bc I thought this was an easy win.

theres an easy explanation "not excuse" for the lose. Olowakandi, Q, and Brand didn't play a single exhibition (Q played 1 i think) with there new point gaurd Miller. Its gonna take a little while to get use to running things with him at point. The clips had the game the entire time until the last minute. They had a couple turnovers in that time because they looked lost in their halfcourt offense especially Olowakandi. Kandi also took some horrible shots and Ricky Davis was shooting great and D-Miles made the most of his opportunities. If those two players played against Sac town like they played last night and had Z along with their coach they would have been sacramento tooo. The clips played just as good as Sac did on tuesday, but the cavs played much better than they did against Sac.

No Worries at all.
El, Q & Kandi were not at 100% at all last night. It seemed as if they just started their pre games. It's important that all their players fully recover and get their legs and wind back. They'll get used playing alongside Dre. Keep in mind half of the squad did not have the chance to play with Dre and to get a feel of his playing style. Theirs much to be done and once they're all back and healthy, they'll get it going.

The knock was the Clips need a veteran closer. Doesn't seem like the job for 'Dre. He gives them veteran leadership, but who is the closer? We all know closer by committee ain't gonna get it done.

I gotta tell ya 'Show. Its pretty damn depressing over here. It looks like a handful of posts today and thats it. I think there are more views in a single thread on the Chicago board than there are on your whole board. Wheres the excitement over here? Is there another board in town or what?
