This may hurt his trade value and that's why everyone is complaining about him even more.. They dont want Cook on this team.. Plain and simple.. been that way for his years in LA.. The fans always want superstars and all that.. That's fine with me too.. But also be realistic.. He's improving each year too.. He's working hard on his game, etc.. Sorry for the useless rant really though..

Laker Brian Cook Undergoes Thumb Surgery
By Mike Bresnahan, Times Staff Writer
4:43 PM PDT, July 18, 2006

Brian Cook became the second Laker to undergo surgery in recent days after an urgent procedure Monday night to repair an open dislocation of the interphalangeal joint of his right thumb.

Cook was involved in a freak accident Monday while playing a pickup basketball game at the trendy Sports Club LA in West Los Angeles. The thumb on his right hand--his shooting hand--was torn open after he hit the backboard while blocking a shot.

"I blocked the shot and the ball went out to half court," Cook said Tuesday. "My thumb pretty much did too."

Cook, who also averaged a career-best 19 minutes per game last season, will have to work for more playing time next season following the Lakers' recent acquisition of free agent Vladimir Radmanovic, a lanky forward who also scores mainly from the perimeter.

"My spirits are high," Cook said. "They said I won't have any problems getting back. I'll be able to work on other stuff in my game. I can still work on my legs, get quicker, and I can work on my left hand. This is going to make me ambidextrous."

Even I had to laugh at his thumb comment.. hilarious
no problem... anyways, i dont think people dont want him on the team, they just dont he has room to get much better, and as the way he is now, it's not very good.

i dont think we want just superstars, or at least for myself. robert horry before those clutch 3's was my favorite player on the team. he was a big time help defender, good rebounder, and feared shooter... but in no way a superstar.

that's what i noticed too... he took a few bad shots against phoenix. i think sometimes he tries a little too hard on defense to compensate for his lacking defense. he took some ill-advised shots against phoenix too, sometimes trying to "take it to the hole" or taking jumpers with a man in his face and 20 seconds left on the shot clock. can't hate on him too much though, he's made a few big shots for us in the regular season.

Surgery Successful

By BRODERICK TURNER
The Press-Enterprise

LONG BEACH - Brian Cook had successful surgery Monday night to repair his right thumb, which he dislocated while playing earlier that day.

Cook said he "wasn't really playing hard;" he tried to block a shot and hit the backboard.

"I was looking down, and my thumb was looking back at me," he said by phone.

Cook is expected to wear a splint for three weeks and recover in eight. General Manager Mitch Kupchak said Cook should be ready for the start of training camp on Oct. 2.

Cook had his best season last year, his third. He found his role on the offensive end, becoming a dynamic pick-and-pop shooter. He averaged career highs in points (7.9), rebounds (3.4), field-goal percentage (51.1), three-point shooting (42.9) and minutes (19).

With the signing of Vladimir Radmanovic earlier this month, Cook could lose playing time because Radmanovic also is a prolific outside shooter.

Kupchak said Cook probably could find a role.

"Brian has established himself as a player in this league," Kupchak said Tuesday. "He's done that to his credit in the last two years. ... And he assured me today, when I spoke to him, that even though he has this thumb injury, he's going to be ready for camp."
