CHRIS MIHM: Future PGA member?

LA Daily News: Lakers center Chris Mihm spends most of his time banging with big bodies like Elton Brand and Tim Duncan in the NBA. But in the offseason, he plays golf as much as he can. Mihm didn't pick up the sport until his days at the University of Texas. He plays most of his golf while visiting friends and faily in Austin, Texas.

Mihm spent his youth playing basketball, tennis and swimming. As a 14-year-old, he was one of the best juniors in Texas. Mihm won't play as much golf this summer because he's scheduled to have ankle surgery today.

DAILY NEWS: Why did you start playing golf?

CHRIS MIHM: A couple of (college) teammates took me out to the course.

I had a couple of family friends who always wanted me to play. I started going more and more with them. Playing basketball is indoors through the fall and winter and spring. Come summer, I love being outdoors. Golf is more relaxing for me. I get to take my mind off everything.
