Ventura County Star: Marcus Douthit wears the appearance of a veteran.
He eases back and forth down the court, never too fast or too slow. When he makes a mid-range jumper or a smooth layup, he shows no emotion. His postgame comments are calm and calculated.
"I try to be calm because when I'm emotional, the game doesn't come to me," he said.
Few people outside the Los Angeles Lakers' most dedicated fans may know who he is. The Lakers drafted Douthit with the 56th pick in the second round of the 2004 NBA draft.
Two years later, Douthit remains a member of the Lakers at the recently completed Summer Pro League at Long Beach State. The Lakers face a decision whether to sign the 6-foot-11 forward/center or lose his contract rights.
"I got a few teams looking at me right now," Douthit said. "So if this doesn't work out, they lose my rights and I can go somewhere else."
