Realistic MLE possibilities
Since we're all getting so wrapped up in all these trade rumors I thought I'd change things up a bit and throw this question out: Who can the Lakers sign this summer for the MLE that would make the biggest impact in the '08 season? Just as an example I think Steve Blake might be a nice fit should they decide that Jordan is not yet ready to become the full-time starter. Assuming he's not demanding more on the open market. Who are some others you think might work?

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
I'd like Lakers to pursue Charlie Bell. Not sure how realistic that is though...

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
I think he'd be a definite possibility considering Milwaukee's main concern is going to be the re-signing of Mo Williams. Bell would be a nice addition.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
Either Bucks point guard. If we bid high for either, then theyll pay a lot for one and won't have enough for the other. Mo Williams is a lot better and I'd ratehr get him. But Bell is more likely. The only thing Bell has over Williams is his defense, but thats a big thing since we need defense.

I'd be happy with either as well. I already ruled out Mo Williams, since I assume the Bucks will be re-signing him, or some team will be offering more then we could ever hope for.

I agree Williams will be harder to get, but you gotta remember that Detroit lost to Cleveland in 6 with Billups having 2 straight bad playoffs in a row. Does that really make Dumars wanna re-sign Billups, with Webber retiring? They lose a starter and they're getting older, they aren't gonna get better. There's been rumors this whole season on Billups going to the Bucks. If he does, then they're definitely not re-signing Mo Williams.
I think we have a pretty decent chance as it is, but if Chauncey signs with the Bucks then we have a great chance.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
I don't think Williams is going to sign anywhere for the MLE, he's going to demand 10 mil + on the FA market and the Lakers have no chance at that price. The MLE is only 5 million, and it doesn't buy what it used to.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
As BH suggested before, I like Magloire as our man for the MLE.
There's a likely chance that we'll be trading both Kwame and Bynum so it makes sense to sign a durable big like Magloire.
Then I'm concerned he might want to sign with the Raptors if they do offer him a contract.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
Magloire would be a nice addition assuming Bynum is gone and Mihm doesn't come back. He would like to play at home in Toronto I'm sure, but he would probably get a lot more PT here.

We don't have a decent chance at Mo Williams. He's going to be getting way over the MLE, and if Billups does go to the Bucks, that will free up room for the Pistons... which they would have a huge hand over us in signing Mo Williams.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
Yes, let's all forget about Mo Williams - in fact let's pretend he doesn't even exist. I'm talking realistic options only, meaning somebody that either shows promise, but has yet to fully prove themselves to be a consistent contributor or an older veteran who can no longer demand a bigger salary.

That is another player I'd like to see the Lakers take a look at and hopefully come to some sorta deal to sign him.

Re: Realistic MLE possibilities
I think Magloire will be a better option. He is a serviceable vet. Plus, our biggest trade chips currently are Bigs and also, guards are just easier to come by than centers.
