You win by collapsing the defense through penetration or having a bigman do it by getting easy buckets not by station to staton basketball that the Triangle seems to feature.
Francis at least penetrates and beats his man off the dribble consistently, and Critt does the same things.
Time to give the pg job to one of the 1st rders and stop this bs hand holding.
Fisher would be better on a team with a good big in the middle.
Give the job to Farmar or Critt who's gonna take it anyway.

I dunno jazzy, francis would be a real high-risk, decent-reward type player. I'm not sure Francis would fit in too well here. disregarding his well publicized locker-room issues, assuming the roster stays as is, do we really need another player who needs to dominate the ball to be effective? and, as you said, the job is most likely Famar's or Critenton's by next season anyway. why not bring someone in that phil knows he can trust to make plays, be a great locker-room presence, and help the youngsters develop?

I also like the idea of Fish and Kobe in the backcourt again. They both know each other's sweet spot and Fish is an upgrade over Smush and Farmar defensively.
The only backlash is this will interfere with our younger guards progress. For one, Id really like to see Farmar and Crittenton get more playing time, but with Derek's addition, minutes will be harder to come by for either one.
My only hope, is that the Lakers are not extending their courtesy to him by signing him a ludicrous amount of money to acquire him.

agree. unless the lakers can somehow snag mo williams, there are no other guards in the market better for the lakers than derek fisher. he's been instrumental with the lakers 3 peat success. steve blake is a no no, steve francis is a bigger NO because i dont know how a point guard who relies in holding on the ball too much is gogin to help. only question with fish is his age, but other than that he should be fine when jordan farmar and javaris crittenton are having tough rookie/sophomore nights.

Fish signs, Kobe stays...we're all one big happy family again.
Great moves in the offseason so far, Walton resigned, Crittenton drafted, now Fish is expected to sign. Nothing spectacular but I could honestly say we are moving in the right direction.
Only question, is how much will they give Fish?

Yeah, however I dont mind having Steve Francis but for the right amount. But seeing as Fisher will be a Laker again officialy tomorrow, there's no need for Francis anymore.

Re: Stein: Lakers on track to sign Fisher.
Apparently Joel Meyers said on tonight's NBATV broadcast of the Lakers/76ers Summer League game that the Lakers will sign one of their "former lead guards in the next coming days". However, because of tampering rules, he didn't dare to say Fisher's name outright.
PG: Derek Fisher...Jordan Farmar...Sasha Vujacic...Javaris Crittenton
SG: Kobe Bryant...Maurice Evans
SF: Luke Walton...Vladimir Radmanovic
PF: Lamar Odom...Ronny Turiaf...Brian Cook
C: Andrew Bynum...Kwame Brown
With a healthy Fisher and Radmanovic, we should be deadly from the outside. Ideally, after this signing goes through, we should re-sign Chris Mihm. Then, look to package Kwame Brown, Brian Cook and Sasha for something decent in return. There has to be a team out there that would love to get their hands on all those expiring contracts.

Re: Stein: Lakers on track to sign Fisher.
Well, I guess they could have done a lot worse. But I'm still not sure this is the answer. Although, I would feel much more comfortable with Fish as the starting point than with Farmar next season. Welcome home Derek.

hoopshype has fisher for 3 yrs 5 mm a year...
