I think he sucks. Never tells you the score and bails to do football on Sunday nights. (missed Kobe's 81) Not that he was great but I thought Sunderland was better. I think the Lakers deserve a full time announcer. RIP Chicky Baby.....Thoughts? (This post makes it official...there is not a damn thing goin on in basketball)

It came down to knowledge and experience over mass appeal when they let Sunderland go. I liked him too, but not as the lead announcer for the Lakers. He just sounded too unfamiliar with the game at times, which didn't make for a well-balanced broadcast. The play-by-play announcer must at least sound as if he truly knows the game, Sundy just didn't have that.

actually, i think that's stu's job.

it's not like chick really knew basketball that well.

the job of a play-by-play announcer is to call the plays as they are, it's not his job to know anything beyond.

How exactly does a play-by-play announcer do his job properly though if he doesn't have a basic understanding of the game? Chick clearly did know basketball, he didn't need Stu to explain basic set plays or terminology. Sunderland was more "likable", I'll give you that, but Joel Myers is a vastly more educated basketball man. There's one thing I think we can all agree on though, that Chick Hearn is a legend and whoever broadcasts the Lakers during our lifetimes will never measure up.

I think Joel is kinda boring. Atleast you can listen to sundy and not be that bored. He announced the games with more character and energy. BTW it is a horrible time to be a basketball fan, there is nothing going on and we have to talk about the announcers lol.
