Odom at 3 in the Post how can we lose
With Odom at the 3 spot in the Post how can we lose. Of course we can lose but there's no way we aren't a better team a much improved team. I think this vaults us ahead of some teams now.
Against the Spurs Bowen guards Kobe how can their other 3 guard Odom, against the Rockets Battier guards Kobe , Tmac can't guard Odom's lemgth, at 3 against the Pistons Prince guards Kobe how can Rip guard Odom.
I'm gonna advocate a radical idea here. The offense should be run through Odom almost half the time with the match up advantage.
Now the reverse, can odom guard any of the quick 3's, I think he can he's very fluid at 3 very athletic I think he sticks the 3's much better than Walton does plus he's quick enough to get a hand in the face on the jumpers.
With Turiaf being a productive force at 4 and kwame and Bynum at 5.
I think we've improved greatly.
The key though is simple force teams to double Odom in the post don't get so random offensively spotlight odom exclusively on the block.
Do that and I think we can win 50 games.
If we don't spotlight Odom in the Post he'll get attacked on the other end of the floor and PJ will be forced to counter with Luke which is the worse possible option for big minutes.

Re: Odom at 3 in the Post how can we lose
Question as always is going to be whether Odom will be aggressive enough to take advantage of his mismatch.

Honestly, it could mean nothing. But there is something about Lamar's attitude since the end of last season. Even the statements about wanting to be an allstar, and shaving his head to match each month etc. His game back he should have been taking it easy, but he seemed like he wanted to come out and set a tone for himself on the season.
I don't know, I have some strange feeling that aggression isn't going to be the problem this year.
I hope I'm right.

Our team will go as Lamar goes.
If he decides to be active and take over games, we will be a deadly team this year. I hope shaving his head with the stars is a sign of aggresiveness this year.
If he can play near the level that he was against the Phoenix Suns last year in playoffs, he'll be fine, which yesterday was a very good first impression of him to start the year.

Re: Odom at 3 in the Post how can we lose
Man, I've been saying this since last year. Start Ronny and move Lamar back to the 3.
The defense is much better now. Ronny brings a ton of energy and toughness. He can block shots and clean the glass. He adds another rebounder in addition to Lamar. Ronny is just better at defense at PF since Odom lacks the size.
On offense it works out because Ronny gets a lot of dunks from Kobe and Lamar and he also gets open jumpshots. His back to the basket isn't so shabby either. Lamar posting up on SF's is a great way to use him. When he's on the perimeter he becomes passive by just standing at the three point line.
Like jazzy said I think just this positional change and slotting Ronny into the starting PF spot and allowing him to be a big part of this team will help us a ton. I think were a 50 win team with the way things are going, but if Turiaf and Bynum and/or Odom becomes that 20 ppg scorer, we could be incredible.

Re: Odom at 3 in the Post how can we lose
Nuh i think Walton should be starting. The guy is a talent. Plus Radmanovic needs game time at the 3. Walton should start at the 3 and fill in for Kobe when he is off.
But yet you guys do have some choices at 3 & 4. Odom, Walton, Turiaf, Radmanovic, Cook, Evans & Sasha can all make an arguement for game time.
But I think its that first 4 that make the best arguements.

With Odom, Ronny, and Bynum (or Mihm) on the floor... There is no reason for the Lakers not to be a top rebounding team in the NBA.
Walton is better suited as a sixth man off the bench. In reality Odom can do everything Walton can, with the addition of creating his own shot, shooting the three (sometimes) and better on defense and mismatches.

Re: Odom at 3 in the Post how can we lose
I like thie idea. Turiaf is a incredible motor, he needs to stay put and start at the 4. If Odom can develop his mid range shot then this team is really going to take off. Imagine Odom having the ability to post, and take the jumper as well. Talk about opposition paying respect to another Laker not named Kobe.
I love Lamar to death, some people say he's the weakest link, that Kobe and Lamar experiment is a failure. But I refuse to believe that. Last year was his time to shine, but injuries and the death of his son, really hampered his progression. But his first few games last year were promising, aggression was there (as he promised), but then came the injury bug that bit the 06-07 Lakers.

I would agree if you said Kwame and Bynum instead of Mihm and Bynum, Mihm and Bynum offer the same things slow rotations and weak man and help defense. Kwame and Bynum give us an ideal situation at 5. One is defense, quickness in switching and trapping pick and roles and physical play and one offers offense finishes in the paint a soft touch, and length.
I know people hate Kwame but he gives us a necessary asset and thats physical defense. PJ mentions it often.

Jackson said the Lakers failed to take advantage of Odom's skills in the paint during the past two seasons, but will play him closer to the basket more often in 2007-08.
