Video: “If I dislocate it again, I’m probably in trouble”

The ESPN video basically explains how he will play a couple minutes tonight, then sit out the rest of the All-Star game.

Kobe also explains how he is confident he can play the rest of the second half, but just needs to be careful on injuring it again.<object width="440" height="361">

We're just all going to have to hope for the best, like I've said before. But I think he'll be careful with it and will get through the season fine.

IMO, Kobe should go ahead with the surgery and sit out 6 weeks. I'd rather see Lakers having a bad season than losing Kobe for long period at this point.

This seems like a HUGE risk. Seriously, I don't know why he doesn't just take some games off so he doesn't have to play in the all-star game, then see if he can handle the rest of the season. If Kobe gets hurt in the all-star game and is forced to get surgery, it might go down as the golden example of why not to take chances on meaningless games.

I highly doubt he'll get injured at the all-star game. He's only playing a couple minutes.

Pretty much. Its an All Star Game.

If Kobe's performance is going to mirror those against New Jersey and Atlanta then I do hope he sits out. Id rather have us at the bottom of the seed with a healthy team ready to strike rather than a top 4 spot with our focal point player's health at risk. Even if he comes back at the end of March or beggining of April, they still have ample time to get acclimated before the playoffs begin. But what do we know? If Kobe and Phil have consensus decision on this, then the only thing we can do is hope for the best but also expect the worst.

Jinx it and die... a slow and painful death.

Most people are worried though that we wouldn't even make the playoffs. I believe we would, but there is good reason that we may not as well, seeing how close everyone is. Although we do have a favorable schedule.

Re: Video: “If I dislocate it again, I’m probably in trouble”

Yeah, we do get a lot of mixed reactions. But IMO, we'll be fine with Pau,Odom,Fisher and company. Pau proved he can be a winner with adequate help in Memphis, and this team minus Kobe is more than capable of providing him whatever he needs.

I really dont feel good about this one way or another. Our luck has'nt been the best when it comes to health. I hope this is a right decision. I guess we will find out soon.

Re: Video: “If I dislocate it again, I’m probably in trouble”

I think Kobe's injury may be worse than we are being told. Did you see him on the bench after playing less than three minutes in the All-Star Game??? His hand was fully wrapped in ice. Seems very strange to me, considering he has not played or practiced since our last game. He barely touched the basketball in that short time...and he is going to wait six months and keep playing??? VladRad played the entire season with a very similiar injury last season, and I don't recall seeing his hand wrapped like that. I could be wrong. I think Kobe should just have the surgery and get it over with.

Re: Video: “If I dislocate it again, I’m probably in trouble”

huh?

he played 3 minutes because he doesn't want to aggravate it. the lakers franchise doesn't want him to play. byron already agreed to sub kobe out shortly after the game started.

he's icing his hand to take every precaution possible.

I think Kobe is fine, he will be able to play though the season. Gasol should be able to take some pressure off of him.

Understandable. However, he only touched the ball once or twice...and did not attempt a shot. I don't see how he is planning to continue playing his normal game with this injury.

you know, there are a lot of other stars on the west team.. does'nt surprise me that kobe didn't touch the ball much.

just because he didn't touch the ball a whole lot, doesn't mean that his pinky is completely f'd up.
