Sasha as a shooter
I like Sasha, but he becoming overrated as a shooter.
He shot terrible today and I would rather see somebody like Kapono or Korver become our Sasha.
We should trade him after this year because his stock will be higher.
He's got a good attitude for basketball though. He also hustles on defense.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
He's not becoming overrated. He shots lights out in February. Just because he shot badly from the field in today's game against Dallas, it doesn't mean he's becoming overrated.
And he's also a restricted free agent after this season, so I think the only way we trade Sasha is in a sign-and-trade, and I doubt we'll do that. I think he'll be on this team next year, and the way I see it, he's going to get better.

Trade him for who? No one is going to give us Kapono or Korver for Sasha.
Not to mention, it was only one bad game. He's been very consistent so far this season, as well as hitting big baskets in the fourth of many games (this one included).
He's also a far better defender than a Korver or Kapono. Why go for those one dimensional guys when we got one already named Vlad? Sasha handles the ball well, is a decent passer, and a decent defender. He's more needed on this team when we have a healthy Vlade, than a Kapono or Korver would be.

Sometimes I think compsciguy starts threads for the sake of it.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
Sasha is what he is. A streaky shooter. If he were a more consistent shooter, he could probably be a 6th man, maybe even start for some crappy teams. Luckily, he's the tenth or eleventh man off our bench at full strength and gives us great production when he comes in. I'm content with him. All we really need to do this offseason is address the SF and C position. Is Mihm finally going to be able to play a full season as our backup? If so, we can sit pat. If not, we need to add a backup C. At SF, we have Odom for another season and Vlad for several more. Is Ariza fully recovered from his injury? If so, we might be able to part with Walton as his skill-set is redundant on this team. I'd like to keep him but I feel bad for him because he's better than a bench warmer (which he might be next season) but he's not a starter.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
come on man, he's had a bad shooting game..
as long as sasha can play good defense to equalize his bad shooting nights, i'm okay with it.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
on a second note, i don't really think we are favorites this year.. call me negative, but andrew is still developing and pau's defense isn't good enough to anchor our paint. im also not sold on whether we have enough "clutch" guys to make big plays for us. besides kobe and fish, who else is dependable for us in the clutch? definitely not luke or lamar.. and maybe pau.
im hoping im wrong, or maybe we get lucky in the playoffs somehow.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
I'd actually like the Lakers to get rid of Luke Walton and make some moves to get Martell Webster. The Blazers are jam packed at wing positions with Outlaw, James Jones, Brandon Roy, and Rudy Fernandez coming in next year; plus in the triangle offense it never hurts to have another shooter. I can picture Kobe, Lamar, Pau, and Bynum pitching out to our shooters in Fisher, Farmar, Radman, The Machine, and Martell.

This is what I wanted to hear.
Also, I don't like the mechanics of Sasha's shot. He doesn't look like a natural shooter to me.
More like somebody thats trying to fill a role on a team that needs a particular role filled.

Re: Sasha as a shooter
Is there any way we could buy out the rest of his contract? Get Lue and Cassell instead. They are way more proven an would help immediately. I cant stand this 1-10 shooting garbage anymore!

I don't even like the guy, but don't you think this is a slight overreaction? I mean, here are his numbers from beyond the arc in the month of February:
4-5
2-4
1-4
2-3
3-4
2-3
1-4
1-4
0-2
2-3
5-9
3-6
4-8
2-4
2-8
TOTAL: 34-71 .479
It was one game, honestly. I know I though he should've stopped shooting when his shots weren't falling, but who wasn't screaming their lungs out when he hit that one at the start of the OT.
