Lakers get mixed injury updates
The Lakers continue to monitor their injured players, receiving positive updates ( Chris Mihm), negative ones ( Trevor Ariza), and some that are in between ( Andrew Bynum).
Bynum is still jogging in a swimming pool and also working out on an elliptical machine, but he has not tested his injured left knee on a treadmill, though that could come next week, a team source said.
The Lakers do not have an updated target date for his return, but Bynum is out until at least early April. He has missed 25 games so far because of a deep bone bruise in the knee and a brief dislocation in the kneecap.
Ariza hoped to get out of a walking boot earlier this week, but the broken bone in his right foot hadn't healed enough, a reality that Coach Phil Jackson called "a disappointment for us."
A key member of the second unit after being acquired from Orlando, Ariza probably will not return before the end of the regular season, four weeks beyond the original forecast for his return. (The Lakers' last game of the regular season is April 15.) He has missed 23 games since sustaining the injury in a Jan. 20 practice.
Backup center Mihm has begun jogging on the court less than three weeks after having a screw removed from his surgically repaired right heel. He hoped to be back in time to play in April, which would be about right for the original six-week timetable.

Sounds like Ariza won't be playing for us the rest of the year.

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
I don't know what to make of this. Bynum and Ariza are 20 and 23 years old and already appear as slow healers. I'm no doctor, but I just hope that they have as injury-free career with the Lakers as possible...
At this point, I'm actually quite excidet that Mihm's coming back. We need a backup center and Mbenga is pretty much worthless.
Get well soon Andrew, Trevor and Chris!!!

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
Why? I didn't say they are injury prone to begin with. If they come back +4 weeks after their initial date they are slow healers. I don't think I've said anything wrong. I'm just pretty bummed about this...

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
well, maybe it's a different topic but i said i was worried about andrew being sort of injury prone, considering that he's going to be out half of the season due to a minor injury...
and some people made it seem like what i said was heinous.
i mean, he's 20 and had an injury.. but for 12 weeks? what's up with that? it didn't look bad, not the kind of injury that would keep you out for 12 weeks, especially when you are 20. what's to say another "minor" injury won't take him out for half of the season next year? i think he had an ankle injury and missed his senior year in high school too, which is why he went as a 10th pick.
last year he played all 82 games, but there was always talk about how minor injuries kept him from playing a lot of minutes. he wasn't conditioned as well as he is now, but still, a 20 year old kid who can't stay healthy when getting minutes is not a good sign. he's only played 20+ minutes in each of the last 2 seasons.

This isn't the best news ever.

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
bottom line: he didn't tear any tissues, or break a bone. it's not a serious injury. yet he's out 12 weeks.

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
Didn't Gary Vitti say something about having to rehabilitate Bynum's entire lower half because Bynum's natural gait was conducive to the type of injury that occurred?? Maybe this could be why its taking so long. I remember him saying something about having to strengthen Andrews pelvic area to balance out his lower half so an injury like this doesnt occur again.

Re: Lakers get mixed injury updates
you know its better to be safe than sorry... even though its quite disappointing to lose bynum for the whole year, i would support the lakers decision. it might come down to 20 years of greatness or one year of championship run. | |
