Phil Jackson's Legacy

It's even better now in my opinion regardless of postseason results this season. The main knock against Phil has been that he picks his spots and takes stacked teams to the championship. Enter the likes of Andrew Bynum, Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf, and to a less extent Trevor Ariza. Think about how far these guys have come and their continuous improvement seemingly overnight. Not all credit goes to Phil, but it is time to recognize him as a true developer of talent. If the players are willing, Phil can bleed every ounce of productivity they have in them. Although his substitution patterns and sometimes refusal to adjust at certain spots in the game can be mind boggling, I am thrilled to death with the job that Phil Jackson has done in his second stint with the Lakers. You know how he alters his whole coaching style at the most important times, so this postseason should be fun to watch.

Re: Phil Jackson's Legacy

I agree. Phil has obviously had far more stacked teams this one, and yet he still knows how to get the best out of most of his players.

We have a very talented team, but if someone else was coaching this team, I'm not so sure we would be the front runners in the west.

My favorite part about this year is when you saw Phil enter playoff mode. He hasn't done it the last few years like he has this year. Probably because those years he knew we'd need a mircle to get out of the first round while now we look like we could take on the league.

The tinkering is done, Phil is ready and so are the boys. This is why Phil gets paid the big bucks.

Re: Phil Jackson's Legacy

Yeah I am very proud to have him as our coach. Hopefully this team will be no different then his past championship teams and will rise to the occasion, and turn the intensity level up a notch more then the rest of the league.

Re: Phil Jackson's Legacy

Very true, Jackson has done a masterfully job as a coach. It's to bad he doesn't get the credit he really deserves. PJ should be right up there for coach of the year this season.

One thing is though, next season this Lakers team will be stacked with everyone healthy. KOBE SG - ODOM SF - PAU PF - BYNUM C.

I agree. Actually, I am surprised that he is not even being considered alongside Doc Rivers and Byron Scott. Bryon Scott will win it ...IMO. He has less to work with than Doc Rivers.

Re: Phil Jackson's Legacy

I'm still not as sold on Phil Jackson as a game coach but as far as managing a season and building to the championship level there is none better. He never over coaches or burns a team out emotionally he stays the course with an even hand.

Even in the midst of all the Kobe preseason Hoopla he was cool and calm he indicated that once the season began things would be fine.

He has a way of letting a player find his place within a team without forcing guys into certain roles and expectations.

Too many coaches unravel into tirades and speeches. PJ plays it cool.

Now his game management and outta timeout play calls along with last second of game play designs suck most times but he gives his team confidence when things look bleakest.
