Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

Pretty simple thread. Could be fun in the deadest part of the offseason.

I'll go first -

Nash - 11/3/9
Kobe - 26/5/4
Ronnie - 9/4/2
Gasol - 16/10/4
Dwight - 19/12/1

I think that despite Kobe/Ron will get less shot attempts next year and play less, they will be more efficient.

Re: Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

Nash 13pts 10asts
Kobe 27pts 5asts 3rebs 2stls
MWP 10pts 3asts 3rebs 2stls
Pau 17pts 9reb 2blks
Dwight 21pts 12rebs 4blks

Kobe and Pau's average will still be up because they'll pick up the scoring slack while Dwight is out early in the season. Dwight is gonna get an extra 2-3 ppg more just based in easy feeds from Nash and I'm hoping his offensive game improves under KAJs tutelage. MWP supposedly is in amazing shape and the back issue he was dealing with us now gone so I expect a bounce back year from him. He played well going into the playoffs last year too. Pau's rebounding will take a slight dip due to Dwight being there. Speaking of Dwight, all the things he's been saying about reclaiming the DPOY leads me to believe he's going to be a wrecking ball on D next year which accounts for the 4 blks. That will allow MWP and Kobe to hound people defensively which leads to an uptick in steals. I can't wait for the season.

Re: Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

Why do you think Kobe's rebounds will fall off? If anything I'd say he'll get less assists because of Nash.

And I don't really buy that Pau's rebounding will suffer all that much. Bynum is every bit as good of a rebounder as Dwight is.

That is good news about Ronnie though. I hadn't really heard anything.

I would think Kobe's rebounds will drop because he'll be applying more pressure on guards defensively with Dwight backing him up. Gambling for steals and leaking out in transition. Leave the rebounding to Dwight and Pau and try to get easy buckets. I'm thinking/assuming Kobe will be running pick and roles with Dwight too so I'm thinking plenty of lob opportunities for him to pick up easy assists. But you're probably right about that part. Just wishful thinking.

Why a Motivated Metta World Peace Is Huge for L.A. Lakers Title Hopes

After an up-and-down season in which it sometimes looked like his best days were behind him, Metta World Peace may just be out to prove that he's still an important contributor to a title contender.

And that he still deserves that starting job.

The Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan reports that World Peace indeed looks to be turning things around:

We'll wait to see that shot before we start believing anything, but knowing the guy's in better shape is reason enough for Lakers fans to get at least a little excited.

After all, as World Peace got into shape over the course of last season, his play improved markedly. He noticed the correlation according to USA Today's*J. Michael Falgoust:

"Out of shape early because of lockout. Couldn't get treatment so I took off a flat 3 months. I did nothing," he tweeted with a photo that shows his decline in weight and body fat.

World Peace shows that he was 268.7 pounds and at 13.3% body fat on Dec. 11. By Jan. 2, he'd dropped to 256.2 and 12.6%.

It's not hard to believe that World Peace was a bit fatigued due after using the season itself to get back into shape. The crowded schedule couldn't have helped.

The Lakers need more of this more than they need another scorer.

So, his defense suffered, and his atrocious shooting might have had a little something to do with tired legs. He also received treatment for nerve issues in his back that may have contributed to his improved play late in the season.

But, we saw a different player as March rolled around, and there's now some reason to hope that's the same player we see this season.

That player averaged over 14 points a game in April and shot 47 percent from the field, a far cry from the 28 percent he shot in December.

Metta handles the Spurs in April.

If World Peace can keep that kind of production up, Lakers fans won't even notice that Dwight Howard's missing for the start of the season.

Yes, the small forward is now 32 years old and well-removed from his most dynamic years with the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings. But, that doesn't mean he's washed up just yet. His minutes have been kept under control for the last three seasons, and no one will fault him for taking on a slightly reduced role during the regular season.

Focus, Ron. Focus.

All that really matters is remaining fresh and effective in the playoffs.

More importantly, Metta seems to be as determined as ever to make this season account according to the Los Angeles Times' Mark Medina:

"I'm ready to be a part of something special, definitely ready to play good ball," World Peace said. "It's not going to take me until April to be at that elite level."

Re: Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

My predictions:

Nash: 12pts, 10 ast,
Kobe: 25pts, 5 reb, 5 ast
Metta: 9pts, 4 reb, 2 STOCKS (Steals+Blocks)
Pau: 15 pts, 8 reb, 4.5 Ast, 2 STOCKS
Dwight: 22pts, 14 reb, 4 STOCKS

I think Kobe will get his 25/5/5 that he always seems to get. I think Nash will get 10 ast per game but will only look to score when teams lay off him. I think I might be a little low on his pts. I think Pau will score and rebound less but get more ast. I think Dwight is going to be a monster and enjoy a ton of easy dump offs, put backs, and single man box outs. All while patroling the paint like a mad man.

Re: Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

Nash- 10 and 8
Kobe- 22, 4, 4
Ron- 11, 3
Pau- 18, 10, 4
Dwight- 17, 15

Feel like Kobe will shoot a hell of a lot less, Nash will sit out 10 minutes in the first halves and then barely play in most second half blowouts, Metta bounces back strong, Pau thrives as a utility scorer and Dwight focuses all his energy recklessly going after blocks, boards, putbacks and lobs.

Think the Spurs in Duncan's rookie year almost. DRob played off of Duncan (Pau) offensively.

Metta World Health

You guess: which Lakers player paid the closest collective attention to his diet and work out habits last season?

Kobe Bryant … right?

Maybe not.

Now don’t get me wrong – Bryant absolutely keeps himself in fantastic shape and has changed his dietary habits in the last several years in particular after his absurd metabolism carried him through a pregame routine of burgers and fries earlier in his career. He’s just not our answer in this case.

How about Steve Nash? He’s extremely well known around the league for keeping a strict diet and putting himself in the best possible shape to maintain his elite level of play after all these NBA seasons.

But it’s not the Canadian MVP, who has yet to sit down with the team’s training staff.

The answer is: Metta World Peace. Don’t look so surprised.

According to Lakers strength and conditioning coach Tim DiFrancesco, MWP is absolutely the man.

“Metta was extremely helpful for me last year because he does a great job with his nutrition and recovery habits,” DiFrancesco detailed. “He takes that stuff very seriously, and younger guys in our locker room started to see that.

“He takes it to a whole different level; he’s really in tune with a lot of high level nutrition approaches. He doesn’t just want to know what a good peanut butter is made of, but where it was made, what’s in it and how he can get a better one. He wants to really put the nutrition program together like an actual nutritionist might.”

In fact, World Peace makes a point of traveling with the right types of food that he knows fuel his body most efficiently during the season when the team is out of town. And he’s just as serious about his work outs.

“He cares about the ‘why,’ DiFrancesco continued. “Metta wants to know why we’re doing each exercise. On multiple occasions, he and I would stay after games lifting into the late hours of the night, and he’s always willing to go the extra mile. He’s very, very easy to work with.”

World Peace came into camp last season noticeably out of shape – just ask coach Mike Brown, or MWP himself – but for a reason. He’d carried some injuries out of the 2010-11 campaign, and with the lockout starting in July, was unable to work with the team’s training staff to address those problems.

Issues with his back and Achilles made it difficult for World Peace to work out as he normally does through the summer and fall, and when the season suddenly started – as a surprise to many players – in December, he wasn’t close to being ready.

“It was a product of the lockout,” said DiFrancesco. “But once he flipped the switch and got healthy, he put it all together with lifting, working out, nutrition and everything. It wasn’t rocket science, he just ate clean, worked out hard and consistently and recovered and slept the right way.”

After shooting 34 percent prior the to All-Star break, World Peace shot 43 percent afterwards, and discovered the kind of lock down 1-on-1 perimeter defending that has been the hallmark of his career.

If you’ve seen him around the team’s training facility this summer (OK, there’s no way most of you could have), you’ve noticed that he’s in fantastic shape.

“Compared to last year at this time, it’s not even close,” concluded the strength coach. “Metta told me he’s feeling on the court like he felt when he was playing for the Pacers, when he was at the top of his game athletically. It’s because he’s put his time in.

“He decided he needed to stay focused on this track and not take much if any time off. You saw it last year from a production standpoint on the court around the All Star break last year, and he’s at that level now coming in. The last thing he wanted was to come in anywhere near where he was lats year, and he’s far, far from that.”

This great if it's true.

People forget that this team has two former DPOY winners in the starting lineup. Can't wait to see the kind of havoc Dwight and Metta cause defensively.

we need him to be as fast as possible. The last couple of years he has been strong as hell, but hasnt moved his feet as well as he did in his youth.

Its good to hear that he is really focused this offseason. The last time Metta was locked in we won a championship.

Re: Just for for fun: What do the starters put up next year?

Nash has 24 games in now so it's fair to evaluate this.

Nash- 12/8/3

Everyone was pretty close here.

Kobe- 28/5/5

Nobody thought he would still be scoring this much. Rest of the numbers are predictable.

Metta- 13/5/1.5

Exceeding everyones expectations. Only Sancho and I picked him to average double figures, and even I only picked 11 ppg.

Pau- 13/8/3.6/1.8 blocks

Opposite of Metta. Elcap and Mojo predicted the lowest point totals at 15 ppg. Rebounds, assists and blocks are about where we picked.

Dwight- 17/12/1/2.4 blocks

Also dissapointing. I was the only one to correctly guess his scoring average (only one other person picked under 20). Rebounding predictions varied from 11 to 15.
