Kobe's Shooting Percentage

All right, so 8 games in and he's shooting 55% from the field, 44% from 3-point range and 92% from the free throw line. He's averaging 26.5 ppg (2nd in the league right now) to go along with 5.5 rpg as well as 4.6 apg. For the PER lovers, he's at 26.50 right now (just for reference, he ended last season at 21.95). And oh, by the way, he's 34-years-old.

When's the last time Kobe started off a season this well? And do you guys think he can keep it up all season long, especially since Nash isn't even back yet and will put him in even better situations at getting good shots? Efficient Kobe is much more fun to watch than inefficient Kobe. I could get used to seeing him shoot 50+% every game.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

Well, he isn't going to keep those outrageous numbers up all season long, but I am very encouraged. Those are MVP numbers.

And so much better from last season, I guess injuries do count for something, eh? And his foot really is bothering him, which makes the numbers even more incredible.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

I'm guessing he's finally fully recovered from all those hand and wrist Injuries. That coupled with his knee procedure and his weight drop probably helps.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

He looks to be much more on balance this season. I think the wrist just killed his fg % last season . He's driving more this season as well have not seen him attack the basket this much in a few years. At this pt with Kobe durability is a main concern guys play him extra hard for who he is and he gets hit pretty hard so hold your breath for the next injury to hit him.

Its clear he's worked on his stroke much more squared up now.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

wrist and hand injuries also killed his handle so I would expect him to be able to drive more if he has recovered

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

He has shown the most restraint as far as shot selection goes that I've seen in his career.

He's not taking a lot of shots at all by his standard. I'm curious if his shooting percentage will go down when Nash returns to the floor. He won't be able to pick and choose his spots quite as much if Nash has the ball in his hands all the time.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

He is deft being more productive and efficient but I dont like the amount of mins his clocking. I would like to see a drop in his mins (which should logically impact his numbers - maybe not percentage).

I would actually like to see D'Toni give some games off...ala Pop and Spurs big 3..in games against junk teams in the L.

They did that when they wrapped up the top seed. I doubt Pringles will be in a position to sit Kobe for months.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

Its also still November. Lets talk about this a few months into the season when Kobe's knees start to hurt again. It seems like Kobe always starts the year pretty hot. Granted, this has been the best start for Kobe in a while, so I am as excited as anyone.

Re: Kobe's Shooting Percentage

historically one of the efficiency killing factors in Kobe's game has been he's had to bail the team out in late clock situations a lot when the offense has broken down - 3 seconds in the clock:"here, do something, quick"

maybe Nash + D'Antoni will mean a little less of that situation which should help long term

but I do think right now we have a small sample size and we will see him come back to earth a little bit - realistic/optimistic expectation better efficiency than we've seen from him in like 4 years but yeah he's going to come down from where he is now for sure
