Owner Jerry Buss and the Lakers celebrate following their 1987 NBA Finals win over Boston
History Repeats: '86-87 Lakers Win it All
Rivals throughout the 1980s, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers met again in the concluding matchup of NBA.com's All-Time Finals Challenge, with the Lakers coming out on top just as they did back in 1987. This time, though, it was by the narrowest of margins -- the fans' vote for L.A. was the deciding factor in a race that finished 8-7-1.
The 1985-86 Celtics went 67-15 during the regular season -- including 40-1 at home -- then cruised to 15-3 in the playoffs. The very next year, the Showtime Lakers won 65 games and not only matched Boston's 15-3 postseason performance, but beat the defending champs 4-2 in the NBA Finals.
