Over the summer, I mean. We kept hearing Bender and a first to LA from a certain source that was convinced the trade was going to go down. I'm glad it didn't go down because now it looks like Bender is going to retire. Looking back at his abbreviated career, it's amazing that Indiana traded Antonio Davis for him. The guy has done next to nothing in his career. It's sad because he's really skilled, as a perimeter player. He could shoot and handle like a SF but people were always trying to make him into something he wasn't (an interior player). At least he got a decent contract out of his short stint in the league.

And who knows if Bender would have gotten hurt had he been a Laker, plus it's not like George or Slava have really done much this year.

Read the article. Bender has had reoccuring knee problems since high school. This would have happened eventually regardless of which team he played for. The pick would have been really nice though. We could have taken Gerald Green and stashed him on the bench to improve by facing Kobe everyday in practice. Bynum/Green would be a nice tandem for the future. It is always easy and fun to look back. Doesn't do us much good...
