Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is a joke....
Just posting this to get it off my chest. As a Cubs fan, there isn't much I like about the WhiteSox... but, with that said, I'll never not "call it as it is." I won't bad mouth someone or something unless it's called for.
I'm sure most of you that are not from Chicago don't even know who Hawk is, but he is the WhiteSox TV announcer who is best know for his homerun calls and Hawk-isms. You might of heard his "You can put it on the board... YESSSSSS" home run calls on ESPN highlights... The other day, Hawk said 4 of the most ridiculous statements I've heard in a long time from someone who should "know" baseball. These following statements were all said in ONE interview... 1.) "A.J. Pierzynski is the best catcher in baseball today..." Ummm, no. A.J. is not the best catcher in baseball... he's not even the best catcher in the A.L. Central with Maurer playing with the Twins. 2.) "Andruw Jones is one of the best players of all-time." Really? Of All-Time? I mean, back in the day he was a great defender with Atlanta... but best players of all-time? What a joke. 3.) "The White-Sox bullpen has the best 'stuff' of any bullpen I've ever seen." OK Hawk, you've been around baseball for 40+ years as a player and announcer and you think this bullpen the Sox have right now is the best you've ever seen?!? 4.) "Omar Vizquel is the best SS of All-Time." Are we serious? All-Time? Nope. These 4 statements were quoted from Hawk Harrelson ALL IN ONE INTERVIEW!!!! Stay away from th WhiteSox cool-aid Hawk, you're losing any credibility you ever had. |

Re: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is a joke....
The Braves really knew when to get rid of Jones...Seems like they rarely make a mistake with their own players. Of course while he was with them he averaged around 30 home runs and 90 rbis while being one of the best defensive players in baseball over that time. He probably has to do that for a lot longer to sniff the hall of fame...And he's gone off a cliff since then. He's a very ordinary outfielder now and he just can't get the bat on the ball like he once could.
I suppose if you were a big fat homer you could make the Vizquel argument based on longevity and the fact that defense is what you really need from your SS.

Re: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is a joke....
Harrelson has always been the biggest homer around. I understand he gets paid by the White Sox and being impartial isn't part of his job description, but he just takes it to the extreme and comes across as a clown 75% of the time...he's been that way for years.
Sox fans love him though, and that's who he's pandering to. |

I couldn't picture what it's like to listen to a giant homer for your everyday team commentary. The Pierzynski comment is funny.

Re: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is a joke....
I lived in the Chicagoland area during college, and a bunch of us out of state-ers would watch parts of White Sox games just so we could laugh at Hawk. Good times making fun of this nutcase. Easily the biggest homer being employed by a team, which is saying a lot considering some announcers.
