Well, I think that from Boston's standpoint this was the precursor to an Ellsbury trade. Yesterday Boston had no choice but to deal Ellsbury because re-signing him would have put them well past the luxury tax line. Now there's no more necessity so they can hold out for a prime package.

Apparently the Red Sox are only kicking in $10 million to help pay for Crawford while he's out. So, let's see, we lost A-Gon. That's bad. But, we also lost Crawford & Beckett, only have to chip in $10 million, leaving the Dodgers on the hook for a quarter billion, and we get De la Rosa & Webster. Pardon me, I need to go to the ER, because I can feel a strong case of priapism coming on

I read that Red Sox said they wouldn't deal them individually, so it was take it or leave it. If they left it, they would have waited until November and got packages from every team.

Great move for Boston though. Maybe they should see if the Dodgers are interested in another starting pitcher, I hear John Lackey should be ready for the start of 2013.

You gotta figure they're just going to reload. The Dodgers are pretty much giving them a do over on the shitty signings they've made, albeit at the expense of Gonzalez who is worth his enormous deal.

Yeah the Sox will take all the money they saved on this deal and blow it on whoever is available this offseason. They really don't have another option.

Henry/Werner are getting ready to sell, they've essentially given the new owners a reboot to build their own team. Given that Bradley & Bogaerts are arriving next year, if they can land some A level talent for Ellsbury they suddenly have the makings of a serious bid for a #1 starter and would be back in the playoff hunt next year.
