The Florida incarnation of the Marlins was not this forgettable. Two titles in eighteen years of existence. Some damn good players and some memorable ones (Mr Marlin, Jeff Conine... Dontrelle Willis at his best, Sheff's cameo... Douchebag owners selling off everything following the first title...

I think he just called them "Miami Marlins" in the article for the sake of having a link to the current Marlins' team page. (A cheap way for ESPN to get more viewers on the page)

You forgot about a skinny Miguel Cabrera that used to play almost any spot on the field, but yeah, it's all about page traffic. haha

You're right, it is... but they've corrected those links over before. Showing Oakland A's page links, when referencing KC A's for example. It isn't that difficult. Probably can mostly be chalked up to sheer laziness.

Zuh? Cabrera has never played more than 2 positions in any single season. 3B-LF/RF-LF/3B-LF... and in Detroit he's done 3B-1B twice now in the same season. He's never been all over the field. Maybe you're mistaking him for fellow hispanic Tiger-Marlin Omar Infante? (I'm kidding, I know nobody would mistake the two)

Am I the only one surprised that it hasn't happened in almost 15 years? Doesn't seem that rare to me to win 5 straight games, each by 1 run.

That was an absolutely brutal season by the way. Outside of Luis Castillo, Alex Fernandez, I guess Preston Wilson, we didn't really have anyone worth a damn.

True, it doesn't. But baseball has so many easily definable scenarios that things like this pop up all the time. It is one of the things I love about baseball. We can define the greatest pitcher ever to come in 85% of the time in the 8th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Baseball is a game played by goliaths, played for nerds.

I mean.......it's not like the team moved from Jacksonville or Tallahassee to Miami. They were always in greater Miami, they just changed the designation in their name. I don't get the importance.

Touche, he didn't start any games at the other positions. I could've sworn they tried him at 2B during one of the playoff games, maybe a substitution. I guess I'm mistaken. However, he did play SS at one point in his career....very early on.

Looks like the team is ready for another fire sale...Loria is a crook. I don't think he has the front office to bail him out this time by getting good prospects, either.
