There's also a chance that, had the team taken your approach and said **** the innings cap recommended by the guy who operated on Strasburg, that Strasburg would have gone out there and had another bad injury. Then what? This isn't MLB 2K12, careers and the future of the team are on the line.

He's 24, Bryce Harper's 19, Ryan Zimmerman's 27, Desmond, Gio, and Jordan Zimmerman are 26. What's the rush? They're going to be good for a while unless they do something stupid, like putting a 24 year old ace's career on the line for one postseason.
