Re: 2012 Hot Stove Rumours Thread

Since we're looking at potential lineups... Here's the one Detroit should be rolling out:

CF Austin Jackson
RF Torii Hunter
3B Miguel Cabrera
1B Prince Fielder
DH Victor Martinez
CA Alex Avila
LF Andy Dirks/Avisail Garcia
SS Jhonny Peralta

If Victor Martinez is Victor Martinez. If Avila can even bounce back to anything remotely close to what he was in 2011 and Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia continue to progress... Those are the primary ifs. Miguel Cabrera, barring injury, is Miguel Cabrera. Same for Fielder. Same for Jackson. Torii Hunter is going to regress, but he's going to get a lot of juicy pitches to hit. Peralta is going to suck. Overall - good lineup. Same as last year: tons of potential to score runs. If the offense holds, this team will run away from the Central. That was the issue last year, they need to avoid it happening again.

The Swisher signing seems bound to backfire.

Yeah, when the Yankees QOed him I was hoping that Boston would stay away. 5/70 for Swisher is destined to result in a "If we give you a top 10 prospect will you take this deal off our hands?" trade down the line.

Damn Swisher has to be in his early 30's at least...He must have himself a pretty good agent.

Yeah, he just turned 32, so the Indians are paying for the age 32-36 seasons of a power hitter with a swing that's not particularly fast.

Yeah.. on the one hand: a good eye doesn't age too poorly. But if he can't get around on fastballs no amount of zone management is going to help him make contact on all those heaters he gets challenged with.

I know the Yankees are due for a decline next year, but I expect them to win more than 28 games.

The walking boot has come off and Derek Jeters progress is right on target to open the season as the YANKEE shortstop.

Nats sign Soriano 2years 28mil. Weird deal for them giving 14mil to a 33 year old closer that might not even be better then Storen

The Nats bullpen got raided this offseason.. they lost two key late inning guys and Rodriguez is a huge question mark.. now that they have money im not shocked they would react in this way.. and in my opinion, unless you have a miriano rivera/trevor hoffman like track record no closer is worth that kind of money with how dispensible they are now a days

My first impulse was to write "I would have agreed prior to 2012" except that Boston's problem was that they tried to convert Bard into a starter and Aceves into a closer.
