Re: 2012 Hot Stove Rumours Thread

He's terrible at Fenway, mostly because the park is unforgiving to lefthanded finesse pitchers and Lester's fastball is no better than average these days. On the road he was actually solid last year. I can see why KC would think he's a good bet. What I can't understand is why they would value Myers over Hosmer.

Lester's Fenway line in 18 starts, 6.31ERA 54 xBH 217 TB 15 HR 86/41 K/BB and a .302/.362/.508 slash line. That's just Lackeyesque.

Lester's road line in 15 starts 3.20 ERA 25 xBH 133 TB 10 HR 80/27 K/BB and a .238/.293/.364 slash line. That's not bad.

So given the road numbers and Lester's age/contract, if Boston's picking up part of the tab I can see why they'd want him. But, like I said, I can't believe they'd rather deal Hosmer than Myers. That's just stupid.

Hosmer had a hell of a slump this year. And after what Harper and Trout did KC thinks Myers is the next superstar

Good, I'll gladly take Hosmer at first for the next decade tattooing that LF wall.

Dan Haren to Washingson

Quote:
The Washington Nationals have added a veteran presence to an already formidable rotation, agreeing to terms with Dan Haren, according to sources.

Haren's deal is for one year and worth $13 million, Fox Sports reported. The deal is pending a physical, multiple sources say.
Solid Deal since they will probably take Strasburg out of the rotation when they make it to the World Series because he threw 161 innings when they only wanted him to pitch 160!

Rangers, Dodgers believed to be battling for Greinke at moment

Quote:
The Zack Greinke derby is currently between the Dodgers and Rangers, with a great likelihood that one of those teams will win the services of the top free-agent pitcher in the market, people close to the situation say.

One person said he thought there might be a third team involved, but folks most familiar with the situation suggest it will be either the Dodgers or Rangers.

The Dodgers have been viewed as a fairly clear favorite, but Texas is showing signs of determination, according to major-league sources.

The belief is that the Greinke deal will wind up being for $160-million-plus over seven years, though that is unconfirmed. CC Sabathia holds the record contract for a pitcher at $161 million over seven years.

The Greinke derby seems to be the focus of those two teams' dealings at the moment. One person who claimed knowledge of the situation said the Rangers' talks with Josh Hamilton are at the moment "on hold.'' If so, that would explain the Greinke activity. The Rangers are thought likely to be able to afford only one of the two players.

Yunel Escobar's stay with the Miami Marlins lasted all of two weeks.

The payroll-slashing Marlins dealt the shortstop and his $5 million salary across Florida to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night for minor league infielder Derek Dietrich.
